problem with sampling?

I have my record player plugged into my MPC but when I try to play a record in the sample mode nothing is happening and all the levels are flat.

what mpc do you use?
do you have the turntable plugged to rec in on the mpc? if so you need to use the red GAIN knob or get a preamp for your TT OR get a mixer and plug the turntable outs to your mixer in and mixer out to mpc record in should work fine.
anyway use GAIN knob and read the manual.

^ yes its plugged into the ins, what if I dont have a mixer, can it still be done?

you need something with a phono input to connect your turn table up to... then that "something" would get plugged into your mpc.

for example the korg kaoss pad 2 (KP2) has a phono input.. so you run the table through that to the mpc.

It depends on if you are using a turntable with line out or with phono out
with line out you can connect it directly to the mpc, whit phono out you need to get a dj mixer or a separate phono preamp (check art dj pre for instance) in between the turntable and mpc/
Also check your gain

All I want to do is sample, the guy at guitar center told me I can just plug it straight into the MPC and that would be it? when I turn up the gain the levels are going now up but im not hearing anything?

found the problem thru troubleshooting, do not go to guitar center......ever.
