Why do most producer's use the mpc3000 instead of the 4000

It seems whenever I read an article about a producer, they're always using the mpc3000 or the mpc60 instead of the mpc 4000. Dr. Dre uses 5 mpc3000's and missey eliot uses the mpc60 I believe and I never read about any top producer's using the mpc4000, does anyone know why?

Because that's what they're used to. Why mess with what works. Dre bought some 4000, but he's comfortable on the 3. My hommie bought a 4k and sold his 60 to Forat. A month later he bought the same machine back from him. I sitting there scratching my head, but I figure, whatever makes you happy.

Owning an MPC 3000 doesnt make you a 'top' producer. thats complete B*** Sh*t.

i think the whole 3k thing is over hyped. its like the technics 1200. good stuff, but technology has moved on.

most of these so called 'top' producers like dre, timbaland, etc dont do thier entire production with thier 3k's anyway. it all goes into pro tools, through ssl consoles, avalon and tubetech compressors, manley eq's etc.

i also think most of these guys only use thier mpc 3000's or MPC xxxx for tight rythmic drum parts only, and nothing else, maybe the odd keyboard / synth sequencing. but thats all.

i myself use my 4000 just for drums and nothing else. i use logic for all instrumentation.

in a nutshell, people use what they are cool with, and producers like Dre are old skool. Dre has been using MPC's since early 90's. to him the mpc 3000 is his time era. same with timbaland (its that whole jodeci time around 95, rnb swing), he bought his mpc back then, so why change now.

and to be honest dont believe all you read or see.

i bet most of them own the whole range anway. take Jazzy Jef for example, he claims to have the MPC 2000/2000xl/3000 and 4000.

but at the end we are masters of our own tools. these are all musical instruments, thats all.

Do you have the MPC...or Logic... as the synch master?

If the MPC is the synch master...then I'm assuming that you can't record audio into Logic?

Are you running the sequencers in parallel...or are you just using a single multi timbral instrument in Logic?

Yeah. and as long as we (mpc-users) cant merge two different sequences wich difference in lenght and signature, it really doesnt matter if you use a 3k or a 4k.. Strings and instruments and synths must be sequenced from another sequencer this way. And the MPC just sits there as a very expensive drumbox..
I REALLY hope Akai implement this in the future OS (1.7?)

similar opinion here ... it doesn't really matter which mpc one uses ... those 60 and 3000 producers know theyr mpcs in an out ... and why hassle with a new unit if the one ya usin is just doin fine ... those mpc's are 1. finished products in terms of os dev and 2. out for 10 years more ... imo little prod get the full use out of the 4k in that 2 years that its now out given the fact that some important features were and are still missin ... despite that i noticed that i change my workin attitude on my 4k with each new os comin out ... anyhow its surely possible to make great music with the 4k as it is ... lets wait for some more years and ya will see how many produce on the 4k ...

but ikke made a good point ... i d even say that it should be possible to merge more than 2 sequences in length ... and in signature if possible too ... that simul play option is simply too little and arranging possibilities in song mode needs to be improved ... or individual track lenghts feature ... i don't care which one of those 2 but having the possibilty ie to layer a 1 bar track/sequence over a 4 boar one and a 16 bar one would be the shit ...

... i already been writin some sort of summary of feature wishes which i wanted to send there soon ... a niceone mo ... it contains some other stuff ... and the best one - just came up a few days ago - is still to ad .... but imo it would be better if someone in here havin some sort of contact to akai would send it there ... not me!!! ... seriously ... who the fukk would give a shit in japan bout some unknown italian deepest basement producin 4k head presenting himself as altopiano ... and btw: it wouldn't hurt to write it in an appropriate english - not in my crappy one ... if ya want i can post it here in the 4k forum and we can discuss some points out of it and than someons else could get in contact with akai ... proposing the most useful features outthere ... corrected by some native english in here and thus written in a nice and friendly way ... dunno just an idea ... let me know if ya interested ...

Ive read that Dr Dre, and NERD had a mpc4k but they returned it to the store and moved back to the 3k. I think most producers do whant to use the latest out there. Pro;s always want the latest in technology to keep ahead of the develepments.

I think that when youre a pro you dont want to deal with all the bugs and the problems with usb (akasys) and harddiscs crashing.
i think most pro's tried out the mpc4k when it first came out and the machine had way to much bugs then.
