I am still struggling with simultaneous play. I want to be able to play a program on the pads(and edit parameters); while my friend plays keys on the module with midi routed through the mpc. I am using akai os. Is this easier to accomplish with jjos? Because the pressing of a key on the midi keyboard selects a pad in the parameters screen, I can't edit filter settings and such while someone is playing the keyboard.

it's not possible, if the midi notes from the keyboard would not trigger the pads the notes would not go through the mpc. there is no hardware midi through

in pad layer window you can select the active pad with the pads while midi-in notes are playing the same program without changing the view (only usefull to change samples/layers)

in jj os you could select all pads and change the filter settings of the whole programm while your friend is playing but you always have to share the same program

In JJOS you *could* create an instrument program that maps across the entire key range and then setup say 16 notes for your drum pads and the rest of the notes for keys/bass or something. It would be a bit annoying though and you'd need to be mindful of the fact that your pads/keys could trigger notes outside of your desired 'range'.

So I'd vote that yes it is doable, but probably not quite what you really want to do and perhaps not a worthwhile investment of time. JJOS has a nice feature though, that allows you to split off single notes to separate tracks. This would allow you to get your drums out of your friend's keys.

There was a thought a while back that JJ may add multi-timbrel mode to JJOS2XL which would allow you to do what you want, but that ship has likely sailed.
