Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Thanks and respect to all who take the time-
I am not so slick with all the techie stuff, I'm trying...

Working with MPC2Kxl, ProTools 7.4, Kontakt 5
All the Kontakt 5 apps are on an external HD cuz it's 60gb.

I want them to be happy together.

1) I'd like to be able to control the Kontakt 5 apps with the MPC.

I woulda thought this would be easy and straightforward and I thought I'd done so one night, I mighta been a little toasty and don't remember how I did it.

2) When I open the Kontakt 5 stuff, say for instance, Absynth, as an Insert through ProTools, I get the Activate/Demo/Buy option, though when I open it outside of PT it's all good, though I still for some reason (and maybe the reason is it's not possible, but really?) can't control the synths with the MP.

I know the above is a bit disjointed, and again, gratitude and appreciation for anyone who got through it and has some light to shed.

you can trigger sounds and set it up to be sequenced with the mpc. read the midi section in the manual, and you should be able to figure it out w/o searching for it in kontact. since u are new i wouldnt try comparing both manuals as u will get confused.

be patient
be patient
be patient

midi is pretty easy once yo learn the basics but u have to be patient.

peace

yes, good words, thank you.

yes, i will rtfm and check back. i thought that the kontakt apps would be able to 'see' the MPC, so I could select it as the triggering device but no dice. aiight.

no such thing as kontakt 5, but that is irrelevant

i was thinking the same thing, but since I didn't bother checking I figured I wouldn't call him out on it either.

my bad, I meant Komplete 5.
go ahead and call me out, i'm not too proud.

i got the triggering sorted out, i know next to nothing about MIDI, I think I'm starting to get the hang of sequencing and I like the tracks I've put together. I want to develop some knowhow with MIDI cuz I've got this enormous palette now and I know I can be working more efficiently.

i find with lots of these things, for me at least, it's idiot check after idiot check.

i am curious though if any of you have experienced what i described about accessing Komplet 5 (or similar) software via Protools Inserts, and gotten to the Demo/Activate/Buy screen. When I open it outside PT it's all good.

Lord Toronaga, how is Anjin-San?

I don't know what you mean exactly.

My general workflow is as follows:

1) Select sounds and make program on PowerBook (old shit i know)

2) Load onto 100mb Zip, then load into MPC (also old shit)

3) Sequence, sequence, sequence, Step-Edit as necessary, Set Effects, Adjust Levels, etc.

4) Bring tracks into Pro Tools two at-a-time for monos or one-at-a-time for stereos

PRETTY GOOD WITH THE ABOVE, NOT SO SLICK WITH THE BELOW

5) Sync PT and MPC so I can add additional tracks triggering Komplete 5 apps (absynth, elektrik piano, etc) with the MPC

6) Edit and Mix to taste in PT and finish I guess.

I've not gotten as far as steps 5 and 6 with anything yet, been detailing and polishing 1-4, but I gotta step it up now to really finish what I've been working on.

I don't even know what Mastering is really. I mean, once I've got the tracks in PT as I want them, what then? Is that the end of the road? Bounce to Disk? Or is there a whole additional process to execute before it's really done?

Any thoughts/tips/suggestions very welcome. 8)

have you set your MPC up in the midi section of protools??

if u havent thats part of the reason for snyc problems. when you check your midi device and midi beat clock your mpc should be an option. also in the pheripheals(sp) change midi slave to your mpc.

sorry im not infront of my rig at the moment. but i will be later to give info out

MidiDevice: check
MidiBeatClock: check

Peripheral Setting: I have no clue what is appropriate here.

I don't know what the following are:
Command8
HUI
MotorMix

yeah i definitely need to do some reading, but I'm not sure where to start.
Not being familiar with all the relevant terminology makes it difficult, but gotta start somewheres...

New Question:

I can trigger the Komplete 5 stuff when I open them on their own.

But,

When I open them in Pro Tools, I can't find the Audio/Midi Settings that enable MPC to trigger.

I do not understand.

Please Help.

Too Many Hours...
