well it is true that it is not the machine who has talent... there are a few things that matter.

for example, the mpc 60 would be almost useless for me because it doesn't have enough memory. Most of my songs (not hip hop) are based around recordings I took of obscure sounds out and around the city.... a lot of those sounds are like 10 seconds to 30 seconds long. you cant sequence a dozen samples like that on a 60.

It all depends on what you are planning to do with the machine.... not everyone is making boom bap with small chopped drum samples.
