S950 floppy drive(pictures inside)

It's a TEAC FD-235HF A549

The pinout of the FD-235HF-A529 appears to be the same as the mpc60

Im having greif with my s950. I try to use a floppy and it says i need to format it. I format it and
try to save. it saves and wont load so im guessing the alps floppy drive is Fooked.

Ive tried about 10 different drives with different solder pads on matching amiga and atari forums
with no luck. Even with the ready signal on a samsung and the disk change re routed the 950
doesnt want to know. The teac drives are almost impossible to get in the uk but ive found a few second hand ones so fingers crossed.

if i find a pc drive that can be modified i will let y'all know. I think its possible for the s900 but the 950
is a different kettle of fish.

check the solderpoints of the power connector for the floppy drive. It could be an issue of a broken solderpoint.
Sounds strange? Yes, but belive me.

My floppy drive in my S950 is acting weird. It won't let me save sometimes and the "oops disk not mounted....." comes on every time i hit the disk button with the floppy disk in it. Then I'll wait it out for about 30 minutes and lets me save again.

I'm taking this as a sign of normal wear and tear on my drive. Has this happened to anybody? Thinking about planning for the worst and buying a spare floppy drive soon before anything bad happens as I use this machine everyday.

I have two of those teac drives for sale...

sorry to zombify this thread. i got some problem with the s950 floppy drive. it won't read the disks. i tried to clean the head with alcohool and qtip like RecLevel said (thanks for the tip) and after half an hour the drive seems to read a floppy disk... got to try with other disks now...

seems to work normally now. thanks again for the help very appreciated. peace

most big chain office supply stores still have floppy drive cleaners for sale...

I finally managed to order an Akai s950 so I could sell my Akai s900.

It arrived today – and its floppy drive was dead. It seemed to format, but after that it wouldn't recognize the disk.
Fortunately, I had some old electronics lying around as I never throw stuff away, and I tried fitting the floppy drive of my Akai s3200 into it (I've installed a SCSI CF reader into the s3200) and it works perfectly; didn't even touch the jumpers or anything.
I had a quick look before installing and I saw it's a Teac drive.

Hello, I'm a new member here and I must to replace the floppy drive of my AKAI S950. So, the right one is the TEAC FD-235HF A59... What is VST? Could you write me the link of VST? I need to buy the TEAC Floppy drive and another question, did the Teac Floppy drive you bought works fine in your S950 ?
