USB (transferring files)

Ok I usually try to solve problems before posting a question but I'm curious about something... when i hook the mpc to my laptop via USB it works great but the songs and sequences appear as unusable files - some samples i can play in itunes and stuff but sequences and songs cannot, it makes sense why they cannot be played because they are programs not sound wavs - does anyone know a way i can transfer a completed song or sequence which can be opened or played via USB from the mpc? I usually record it into my wack recording program but the quality is bunk!

This is the only way. Either you record everything (the whole mix) into some recording program and then save it to wav, or you record each track to your daw for later mixing...
Songs and sequences are MPC only files with notes and all other MPC parameters, this will not read in PC.
It seeamns like JJ sequencer might be able to do it in the future and alow you to further sequence in your PC but for now your only option is to record your beats to the PC as WAVs.

This could be happeing for a number of reasons..
Your output on the MP migth be to High.
Your Audio interface migth be crappy.. :/

thanks i figured as much.... just wanted to know for sure...im using cool edit pro 2 i know its shit but i havnt ventured into DAW's too much yet.... im thinking of getting m powered pro tools...is this wise?

also my biggest issue is with cool edit is the sound card in my laptop if i have it plugged in while recording i hear a god awful feedback coming from the adapter...unplugged is ok but still not great... im guessing most daw's record via usb through an interface...but im not sure

i think both d and jane are correct, though i usually just do the standard record into a daw, im pretty sure you can resample the song in the mpc by setting it to record the main outs and recording the song into one new wav sample on the mp. possibly someone with a little more experience doing this technique can shed some more light on the process, or search the forums, as its probably something that is covered in manual or has been asked before.

it may be helpful to add some info such as what os your running and what type of interface you are using (if you have one)

I am new to mpc's so im just using the akai os... which seems to be troublesome because I made this decent song.. saved it to cf and saved it as it's own sequence..and when i turned the mp back on there was no sound from the saved song.. i think i know why... i guess i have to save all samples used and load them as well when i load the song...this is bunk and time consuming...does the jjos help with this? I do RTFM.. haha do other models make this easier?

cool pro edit 2 is just fine. that is what im using. maybe you have it set up wrong.

have a listen to my stuff which is done through cool edit 2, its not 100% fantastic but its no way shit as you say.

WAV is universal and can be played on almost anything, the other files on mpc are MPC ONLY.

cool pro edit 2 is just fine. that is what im using. maybe you have it set up wrong.

Yeah but I have some serious feedback issues recording into it with the soundcard... my laptop powercord causes awful feedback - i havnt figured out a way to avoid this unless i unplugg the cord, the program eats up the battery life and my battery is shot.. desktops also have this feedback so im interested in a daw recorded through usb il check your stuff out though... if you have some advice id love to know..thanx

also to make sure your saved programs and seq's open properly its always best to save entire memory, i usually just make a new folder when im done and save entire memory to it, then when i load that folder all the stuff i was working on before opens up exactly how it was when i quit. just my 2 cents, hope it helps
