alright heres the deal...
im going to mention everythign in the order i did it in...

first i cleared the internal memory, and disabled the autoload.
and my MPC works normal and liek it usually did after that.

few hours later i go looking for samples.
-latly ive been sampling right through my mixer to my laptop and trimming samples up on my laptop, then sending them to my MPC via USB. (basicly becasue i hate the editing or lack of editing options the MPC1000 proides)

anyways, so instead today, i sampled right from source to MPC, i skipped the laptop.

so know i have this sample i want to chop up and take out parts, and edit, so i decided to bust out the laptop, move it to the laptop, do my businedd there, then just send it back, no problem right? wrong...

i took my long sample, did what i had to fo, and ended up with 4 parts. pt.1 pt.2 pt.3 pt.4. so i move them over, creat a program, assign them to the pads i want. turn off my laptop, put on my head phones, go to MAIN ready to try and make a pattern, (with a clear head) i press the pad with pt.1 then all of a sudden...

this crazy static, loud to, very loud, and unusual. nothing else but static, no sign of a melody. then i press pad 2, pad 3, pad 4, all the same. im all vexed wondering what the helll just happened.

big deal, i mpve them back to my laptop and try again, i must have done something wrong. so i do it again. 10 minuted later sample problem, but this time i didn't assign it to a pad, i just pressed F1 to "play" sound right before you load it. same thing. i was vexeddddd.

so i thought maybe it was the main sample, so i re-sampled from the source which was NOT vinyl. then re-cut, then re-sent to MPC1000. same thing.

alright so by now im yelling at my MPC, yelling at my laptop, stressing the fact i didn't tget the 2kXL.

anyways, determined i loaded the MPC back up after takign a break. sent the samples, which were in parts back to my laptop. i opened them in cooledit, copied them, and pasted them in a "new" project from the file menu, saved it as somthing with different name. sent them back to MPC, made ANOTHER program for the 4th time, loaded them one by one to find they worked.

-hmmm.... so its in the quality setting im figuring. since the MPC samples at whatever it does ?1141?
-the new project i started at 44.1 worked fine, same samples. just copied from 1141kbps or whatever, over to 44.1 khz (or something, this part im foggy about, i dont knwo all the quality apecifis) but it worked.

so im surprised and happy i got it to worked, but im pisSSed off that it didnt' of the bat, why couldn't i just take teh sample of MPC qualiy, send iit to laptop, trim it, send it back, assign it, and it work then? i have no idea. this is why im reporting this.

i hope you all get what i am trying to say, im not very good at explaining things, so feel free to ask anything

also the weirdedst part that totally PHYSHED me out, i tried turing auto load back on, becasue it was one of the orignal chanegd i made, and in the process of tryign to figure out whats wrong i backtracked. when i had it turned on and tried loading and playing the orignal samples that were transfered from the MPC and MPC recording quality, the static was there like before, but those stupid annoying presets in the INTERNAL folder came in and out at random over the static. it was absolutly crazy.

thanks for your time, sorry for typos

oh yeah i forgot to mention, to all thsoe who have complained about samples not coming in at their recorded spot, or samples coming in when thry are not supposed to, were these samples. samples you recorded into the MPC? or samples from elsewhere.

cause believe it or not, i have a strong feeling these two problems are connected.

im thinking if they are sampled into the MPC directly, rather than into a computer at 44.1mhz (for example) then you may run into this problem of samples jumping in and out.

sp if you had a problem with samples poping in and out, reply with the technique you used to record them.

i'm going to look into this further, so any feedback is appreacited

Take a deep breath. Now carry your MPC to your car and gently place it behind the back tire of your automobile. Now place your car in reverse. Press accelerator. Voila. Problem solved. 8)

Are u using the CF card that came with the MPC or something else?

Are u using an external CF card reader?

What OS are u using on the laptop?

Sounds like a writing error or something on the card. Possibly something to do with the laptop or mpc hard to tell without more info.

MPC samples at mono/stereo 44.1kHz 16Bit so same as CD quality and probably same as usual samples u get off net etc.

Cheers

Sounds like you just saved the samples in wrong format in the computer program...

noo, its something in the MPC, not my laptop.

thats one of the first things i checked.

i played back my samples from my computer after recording them, double checked their location and their format, then moved them to the MPC.

-no external CF card reader, which i am looking into getting.
-AKAI CF card was used, the 32mb one.
-im using a PC not MAC, windows XP

poltergeist6, i never tried that, i will though and post up if it fixes or not.

oh yeah, something else weird. when i moved the currupted sounding samples from my MPC, the ones with th sounds poping in over static back to my laptop, they played like normal. the way i sampled them.

Are you sure there are no loop points set in the sample? A very short loop may create a harsh static-y sound..?
By one-up Mon Aug 02, 2004 4:32 pm
no loop points

also, poltergeist6 was right, it was just the starting point. for some reason the sarting point read "??" instread of a number

it was really strange

how was this discovered anyways? and how come it wasn't or isn't being fixed?

anyways, to think all the time wasted was due to the MPC not reading the sample properly. damn. oh well i got it working fine now, everthings a go

The WAV format is very problamatic....everyone uses it but it is not very elegant or standardized and causes lots of headaches for programmers.

lol i feel bad for all you cats complainin bout their mpc1k and how bad it sucks..........ive had my shit for almost a year now and everything works fine, only thing that i might of complained bout but didnt cuz i figured it out was the lil poppin at the end of a sample sometimes, and i fixed that juss by cuttin the end of the sample up a lil b4 it ends and no more pops..........so i juss really feel bad for ya'll cuz i come on this damn forum everyday and hear people complainin n cryin bout their mpc.......if u dont like it or want it, take it back n spend couple hundred more n get the 2kxl

YO i had the same exact problem with this one sample word for word what you said, i'm gona go check right now if changing the starting point works

By one-up Tue Aug 03, 2004 11:07 pm
yeah, just go to TRIM menu, select the sample, then change the starting point, because your MPC will read it like "??" instead of a number

By amplifya Wed Aug 04, 2004 2:11 am
Yup it worked, thank god for this thread or i woulda had a few beats that i could do nothing with

By one-up Wed Aug 04, 2004 2:08 pm
well at least i wasn't the only one, and at least we know the solution.

but still i thinmk this shuold be e-maild to akai and requested to be fixed
