If the Input-Through is turned on it happens really often that the playback stumples (at least on my MPC).
That doesn't happen if Through is turned off, so this could be a possible solution (without working on a pc ;)

maybe the processors not passing the tests for mpc 2500 are used in mpc 1000

this would explain differences the way processor handles the work....

-my old mpc red/blue was useless for jj os,

hanging up suddenly from time to time (bad cpu i think) but worked well with akai os,

-my new/black one suits perfectwith jj os not crashing one time!!!!

interms of business it makes sense.

experienced problems with timing.. on numerous occasions, ive continued work on the same project and something so simple as adjusting pad velocity and overall track volume will trigger some of my programmed sequences to go off beat for a measure or two.. at first i thought it was a polyphony issue because i initially ran some modulation effects on multiple programs ( which i dont normally do) but this cant be the case because ive since taken all effects off and things were fine until i adjusted the volume and pad velocity. This behavior is quite bothersome but i can live with it.. theres more than one way to build a beat and besides when we first bought the machine how many of us actually new about the jjos (with all of its advancements) before fully committing to purchase?

what os and mpc black or blue, china or tiwan?? thnxx

black... china ... by the way this has only happened on one project using both os2 and os2xl.. ive since corrected the issue by recreating the sequence in reaper, and eliminated the program that was giving me trouble.. i sampled some individual marimba hits and created a chromatic program with these hits. could it be the samples? i havent had any problems using these same samples on other sequences. could it be a bad sequence? i find it a bit strange.

My MPC 1000 sometimes freezes when using it as midi sequencer with Reason 4 when running JJ OS2xl 1.15 I lost a couple good beats.I use mostly mono programs and drumkits programs I had a 6 or 7 track 16 bar loop with a couple midi tracks. Is this a bug or am I doing to much I use the MPC to record my sequences using Reason as sound module and sync'd to MTC 30 non-drop but it only happen twice is it MPC or the OS?

I think I might be having different issues than the rest of you.
I 'm running OS2 on the 25000.
I have a specific Song that when converting/recording to a song, half-way through, the whole song (and tempo), slow down abruptly and quite drastic. As if the MPC is saying "I think I can".
I've only noticed it on only this Song/Sequence combination. And the only thing that I can think that I'm doing differently from my usual workflow, is that I've made one of the samples run on an "Loop ALT", pretty much the whole length of this 7 min song.

Any ideas?
OBTW, have it maxed out on RAM, and running of a hard drive. Used to get the same result from a CF card as well.

Is there a way to change the processor? I've got the blue/red mpc 1000 with a grey back, if the processor of the black mpc is better, where can i get that one? do i have to change only the processor, or the whole "mainboard"?

thanks :)

u ve to change the mainboard.....
but i don t think the cpu of the black mpc is overall better, as in th e produktion of cpu s
there are all the time "better " and "worse" ones.
the jj os seems to push the limits of the mpc cpu power so its more evident what u ve inside!

i had to get the pad fix too, so for me it wes cheaper to get a new mpc and it resolved my freezing probs
(it freezed only with jj os)

there is no difference between the red/blue & black model MPCs processors. they both use the same weak-ass cell phone chip for their CPU.

Ok, Thanks!

I thought i read it here somewhere that the processor of the black one was better, but good for me, don't have to buy a new one.
Actually i had only 2 times when the processor started to stumble, that was when i used many many Filters in a pgm and had the audio-through activated, and one time i used the convert/record-feature, as riccokid described above.

Maybe JJ could insert a "emergency"-function that reduces polyphony when the cpu is at its limit? Better this than a stumble in the playback.... omg, if this would happen on stage i would die

You also have to go through your programs and mono sounds that don't need poly.

basic things here.

1: cpu is weak. (geared well for what akai intended, but not what jj has done.)

2: ram does make a difference. (cheap cina ram is not as reliable as brand name ram.)
remember that samples are stored in this ram and played back directly from it.

3: most people are using the 1k in double time. i.e. 180bpm for a 90bpm seq. to get double the resolution. this is working the cpu twice as hard as if you just put the damn thing on 90bpm.

mho: software is no differeent than adding hardware to the use of your mpc. i have an extensive amount of both. my choice is hardware. but alot of top name producers use only software when they are on the road. even some guys that strickly use hardware in the studio. it makes sense. all you need is a laptop and a 25key controller to have a full production suite. that argument is lame.

about the mpc being taxed and causing lag: if you have installed jjos. then you have forced your mpc to do things it was never intended to do. some things are not going to work smooth all the time because of this. if the manufacturer thought it could handle the added stress it would have added the features on thir own. they do have programmers too ya know. and this stuff that jj has done isnt exactly breaking news. all these features have already been implimented on older units by other company's. the system just wasnt designed to handle it. so either find a work around (as nym has done). or just continue to deal with some lag.

i do not agree with this naive akai friendly statement because the mpc 1000

contains the same cpu as the mpc 2500!!! as i know, or am i wrong??

akai was selling u a crippeled machine, with at the beginning, even not a delay!!!,

for only commercial purposes to force u buying and so on..... they don t want u to have too

muchfeatures!!! akai programmers are lame!!! not even fixing what they did!!

so the cpu IS made for MORE!!!, much more.

jj proves it.

it s usual in cpu production to take the ones that did not pass certain tests, to release them

for lower usage. (same cpu but branded with lower mhz)

that s why i think that some mk 1000 has weaker cpu s than others , i ve been

concerned with an mpc 1000 not working well with jj os.(maybe it was defective but it

worked well with akai os, of course it could be that the ram made problems but in this case

akai os wouldn t have been working)

it s also proven that china production is far less good than the same fram taiwan.

also a probable cause.

since i havea black bk one everything is fine. not one freeze!

the old one freezed randomly 2-3-4 per month, a real horror for my live acts....

as jj os is pushing the mk 1000 cpu to it s limits, the faulty ones are more apearent.

tha ts my theory, for me it seems logic.
