Plastic sleeve or not?

These things really annoy me, you can't see the covers properly and they take up more space
BUT
Do they help prevent ring-burn on your covers or something?

Anyway, whats the popular consensus on storing records: sleeve or not?

I prefer the paper ones...

If they come with plastic sleeves I leave them on.

Most LPs = Yes

Rap & R&B Lps = Definitely.

It helps me visually see what's a 12" and what's an LP. Also, I have the artist's music in order from recent to oldest, and the 12" from the LP behind the LP in order of release. (Ex: Follow The Leader LP (plastic) > The R/Just A Beat 12" > Microphone Fiend 12" > Follow The Leader 12" > Paid In Full LP (plastic) > Paid In Full/Move The Crowd 12" > I Ain't No Joke/Eric B. Is On The Cut 12" > I Know You Got Soul 12" > Eric B. For President/MyMelody 12")

One thing I always make sure of though is that my 45s have paper sleeves. I run into so many without sleeves that I keep a stockpile around . . .

yeah, I use the plastic.

Like DBA said, with my hip hop records, all lp's get the sleeve, and some rare or special 12"s do too.

For all other genres, it will get the sleeve if:

1) It's raer
2) I paid some $ for it
3) If I have sampled it / will sample it in the future
4) It's in a subsection of my collection (i.e. library records, bollywood ost's, etc)

So yeah, I use the plastic....I need another 100 or so right now, actually...lol

Plastic sleeves I got, has a real thin layer of bubble wrap. Got them at sundazed.com

but yes plastic covers will help your records from wearing out , ONe THING THO DONT STORE YOUR RECORDS TIGHT THATS WHAT CAUSES sleeve wear, plus it keeps the moister out so you don't get mold on the inside cover, been covering my records for many yrs now , I've been collecting for 30yrs +, they make them for a reason ,so why not use them, take up space HAHAHAHa that's ridiculous how much more space can 3mil take?...i got 100's of thousand of records and they use up the same space,

I get pissed because when I pull my records out the plastic sleeve pull others out, or the sleeve gets pushed off while going in.

I had this weird thing that used to happen in the 90s -- before I had AC. On hot days my records would get stuck together and when you pulled them apart the covers would rip. Not all of them, but it happened enough times for me to say WTF.

BTW, putting your 45s in sleeves is the right thing to do. Stop years of ignorance!

yeah 45's need covers i dont care what, they are the ones that take the most beating,cause there so small in size you would leave a 12" piece of vinyl laying around would you?, yeah whites sleeves and plastic jacket covers for both 12" and 7" dang i go as far as to put them on 10" too. yeah i feel you on the sleeves but i rather have themslip off then covered with mildew or stick together like you said,you know?

i ditch them. they take up room in my record box and add to the weight.
