MAC G4?

My homeboy gave me his Protools Digidesign 001 and I was wondering what specs I would need on the MAC to running everything smoothly. I am mainly using it to mix beats, I am not going to be recording full tracks with vocals. He is also giving me some other software (I dont know the name) so what specs would the MAC need to run Protools and some other software smoothly.
Processor Speed??
Harddrive Space?
Ram?

If it's a G4 you really don't have to do anything should be plug and play.I will tell you however to wipe(erase and reinstall the O.S.)the hard drive and only install the programs that are necessary to run protools also do not install any unneccesary drivers on the computer because Digidesign products are picky about that.Also if it does no have a seperate audio drive get one as protools does not run well if at all on the same drive as the O.S.And last but not least don't surf the web on the same computer you do music on.Those cookies and spyware will turn your computer into a big azz paperweight fairly quick.

I think im running about the bare minimum for PTLE on my G4 with more than 10 tracks, I peak at like 14. I dont really use my comp for recording anymore but here are the specs,

800mhz
768mb ram
OS 10.3.4

anything less than that will be a struggle.

My 400mhz G4 with 640 mb of ram rocks 24 tracks easily with the 001 system.

Mine is the same:

G4 400 Mhz
O/S 9.1
640 MB RAM
DIGI 001

It works fine, but you can't use many plug-ins at once. It's no problem though, because there are ways to work around that.
When the DIGI 001 first came out, the demo-video showed it running on a Blue G3 that was probably between 300 and 400 Mhz.

the problems you are having with performeance may be due to the OS you are using. Try OS9 which uses less resoursecs, freeing up space for your application.

Run a Digi 001 right now. my computer is:

Dual 867mhz
Mac G4
1+GB ram


Aside from the occasional error it runs pretty smooth. I track and record vocals on this setup
