So I called guitar center and they only had one that was 70 dollars and I looked online and there was one I could find for 30 but it was Kingston and I think someone on here told me that brand isnt reliable or something like that. Was just wondering if anyone know a website where I could get one?

I use a 8GB kingston on my 2500. its perfectly reliable. and it was 26 bucks shipped to my door.
I have used it in the AKai OS 1.24 on the 2500 and in JJos, no problem.

Plus i use it between my computer to drop files and then in the mpc to load em, without having to use the mpcs usb port and mount the card to the pc, but I have a CF flash card reader built into my pc.

its much easier to just yank the card out of the mpc and pop it into the pc, rather than hitting mode>pad 2>USB> mount
and then waiting for the sh!t to mount in windows anyway.

and I should also mention that I am constantly taking it out of the mpc and back into the pc and vice versa to move and trasnfer data.. several times a day. NO ISSUES.
Its an 8GB 133X KINGSTON Compact Flash. Go to newegg.com. its 25.99 with free shipping last I checked.

Can that card reader you have be put inside the 5K also? I bought my CF Card when I first got my MPC, so I didn't really pay attention to how much it cost! :(
As far as the Kingston Cards it was the 2gig one folks had an issue with on the 5K. I'm not sure how it is now with O.S2.0 for the 5K though. They may have fixed it that issue. Also at the time I really wasn't sure if a larger CF Card would work, I only knew a 2gigs CF Card worked well.

Hey thats dope man ya I would rather have the 8 gigs but like ray asked do you know if it goes for the 5000 too cause you said you used the 2500 I think. But ya man thanks a lot both of you I will check out that 8 gig one though cause that sounds a lot better than 2.

WORKED LIKE A CHAMP.. (although I DID backup the cards contents before hand) lol

I just got a SanDisk Ultra II 4GB type I compact flash card off of e-bay, buy now for 19.98 with free shipping.
Plugged into my MPC 5000 and it shows 3.8GB without formating. I copied one sample to it to see if it would copy and had no problems. I will put it through its paces later when I have time. The book recommends a 2GB but I guess you can go higher.

Also check your files to...mine 5000 kept giving me a invald format error until I had to rename the file by taking out all misc. characters like {_,!,.*} Etc.
just straight up numbers and letters...
It's a pain cause all my wav files have that crap in it...
if you beg to differ let me know..

Actually, it reads just fine when you straighten out the pins in the slot. You know, i should really become a brain surgeon. All i needed was some dental floss, a kitchen knife, a small clip on light until i realized i had a set of tiny flatheads to do some finishing touches.

It was my impression from reading the manuals, that only cards up to 2gb could be used in the MPC series. Cards larger than that use a slightly different technology, and so require a more expensive reader device (and Akai likes to play it cheep).

Can you actually store more than 2gb of data on the card? if you format the card on the MPC, is the full 4 or 8 gb available?
