MACKIE ONYX MIXERS... anyone got info?

anyone using one of the Mackie Onyx mixers? i need a mixing board and the onyx 1620 or 1640 look good to me, either that or a mackie 1604 vlz pro or a 1642 vlz pro... but im weighing more for towards the Onyx side of things because of the firewire option since im eventually going to be tracking in cubase, once i get the time to learn more of the program...

anyone know of any reviews of the onyx mixers? comparisons, reviews, or anything else that might be informative? ive searched google and havent found too much... maybe the onyx series is too new, but being that they are so new i thought that there would have to be some reviews online or in a magazine or something... ive been to guitar center and they havent got them in yet either!!! any info, opinions, or links would be greatly appreciated...

are these the ones with the firewire output. some1 was telling me of the new mixer with a firewire digital 16-outsputs direct to your pc for HD recordings.

Mackies are generally i good look. I got the 1202 VLZ and couldnt b any happier.

I have the onyx 1220, and Im relly happy with it!! but it`s my first studiomixer so I really can`t compare with the old mackies. the sound quality is good, clean, and the eq is nice. so is the design and look. the bad side when it comes to the firewire interface, which U can buy for around 400 bucks, is that it doesn`t allow U to use the eq. it`s "pre eq" which means that the audiosignal is recorded before the eq section. this might turn some people off, but most often people use software eq..... anyhow I reccomend onyx!!

I have a mackie 8 bus console. Everything is ok. Mackie doesnt do anything to hurt your sound, but it doesnt necessarily help it. very nice neutral mixers.

this is the first thing ive heard from someone that actually has an ONYX...
that is really interesting, hmmm.... the firewire output is "pre-eq" huh, how about "pre-fader"?? looks like imma have to do a bit more research before i commit to anything... would it be better to get an all analog board such as a 1604 vlz pro, or something similar, and then get a seperate audio interface??? would this work about the same? because im sure that for the $400 firewire upgrade, that i could get a decent audio interface... right now i just got the Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum with the included interface which has a bunch of different inputs... i havent really got into the computer side of things yet though... imma be recording into cubase once i learn the program a bit more... im gonna be taking a class at the community college that deals with cubase and soundforge... i wanna buy a mixer and interface that will be good to learn on yet will still be pretty good in the future when i get deeper into recording... i want to buy more for tomorrow than for today so that i dont really need to upgrade to a whole new board and interface for long while... i want something that i can grow into so to speak...

yeah, U could buy the older mixers cause of the pricedrop, but the onyx is not that expensive and they work fine as analog-only. that`s how I use it. the firewireinterface is more of a bonus if U wanna pay. offcourse U could go for another. motu 828 mk2 is really good I think, but pricey!! 750. thats maybe a little to much...... so at the end, buying a onyx with firewire would be really cool, if U learn the software. most important is to get highest possible record-quality, then tweak those badass mpc-beats in the computer night after night....
