Software does make my job as a dj easier- lugging around vinyl (not good in TX heat)
not to mention having to buy everything I want to spin in vinyl (if it even exists) is a huge plus.

I've seen Pete Rock and Jazzy Jeff use serato and I'm sure the set was just as good as it would have been if they were using traditional records (but that's a whole 'nother thread!) Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to see them live before they made the software switch

i dont DJ, but i do spin my own sh!t during shows.. i dont have my material on vinyl. maybe in the future. however, I cant afford to get over 100 tracks pressed for that type of thing.

also true- didn't mention that- I can't afford to have my intrumentals pressed to vinyl and I don't want to mess with CDj's...

i dont like cdj's either... except there is one particular pair that my friend uses that are good.... i forget the type ( i know they are discontinued.. ) they are the size of regular tables and it looks like a regular vinyl table with no arm almost. it has some sort of vinyl on it also.

anyways he manages to do some great stuff with those.

oh, i just remembered a thing i regret buying.

cheap quality RCA to 1/4" adapters. dont get them!

spend the extra 3 bucks on quality ones... because i decided to use them on the end of some rca cables to run from my kaoss pad to one of the mixers here at home. anyways the damn adapters fell apart inside the 1/4" holes!!! you cant even get the parts out with surgical tweezers... you need to open the mixer up and release the broken pieces by removing the tention of the contacts.

and trust me, they dont just break in two. there is like 3 or 4 parts that come off.

ya know come to think of it.. although it wasn't me personally.. my best friend and I put together a studio when he got out of full sail in 2000. and he was DEAD SET on getting tascam da-78 24bit tape machines.. and four of them at that.
we also had 2 mackie D8B consoles and the Tdif cards to interface with the da-78's..
Those Da-78s where 2299 in 2000-2001.. he sold one several years back for I dunno how much.. but still has THREE..

and I am telling you.. you can barely get 400 bucks for the TRIO if your lucky. almost 10,000 in tape machines aint worth Sh!t now.

ouch I have steered clear of older tascam equipment (thought I have been tempted with them being so damn cheap on ebay) You get what you pay for- there's a reason they don't sell for much these days.

yeah because they are a pain in the ass compared to cubase.

but if they still work then you can still use them the same as when you got them.

true, but who in the fuk wants to FAST FORWARD AND REWIND TAPE ?!?!

although it was hot as fuk to actually USE the transport controls on the D8B's when the tape machines were hooked up..

the camera made the auralex look purple.. but it was charcoal.. second pic is much more accurate.

also you can see the tape machines in the rack in the second pic.. but that second pic was like a year or two later after I had bought one of the D8B's from him. keep in mind these pics are like 9-10 years old. that Avalon 737-sp.. I remember us buying that hoping it would be good and taking a chance on it.. when they were still 1995 and we paid 1800, now they are 2300 new. not often does gear appreciate like that, and he still has and uses it!!! sounds great! (with a TLM103). you can see the booth window in the rear left, and the rear right corner was were the production went down. my spot back then. my dude was mostly at the console on the mix.

that was a dope spot tho..

axiom 25- got it a week after my 2500 thinking they would be nice together.. i have used it a fair bit with my software but just use it as a midi interface atm, but it's too bulky and not enough keys. i just want an interface to use with my fantom now.(btw i spilt candle wax all through the axiom & it's still good with splatter marks all over it, looks gangsta!)

alesis 16ch fw mixer- with the intent of using the 8 outs, never have completed a successful 8 out mixdown. it always sounds really flat and lifeless, i think it's just the preamps are very average and boosting that eq makes me cringe.. i have fried it once(had it sitting ontop of a technics class a amp one night i was driving it hard, got it fixed for free.) but recently it has just stopped connecting with my intel imac20' and one channel in my imac headphone jack had died. really it's not a terrible mixer but wish i got the mackie onyx or something with atleast two channels of quality ins. i'm doing a project that's going on a mates album atm but force myself just to use a my br-600 or vs-880 and two track coz it sounds better.

mpc2000xl- not really but i didn't need it, i already had a 2500 but just wanted to see what the hype was about. i've laced a bunch of dope beats on it, but still i didn't NEED it and am finding it hard to utilize it unless it's for fun. but don't know if i could sell it, besides it's FULLY maxed out.

i'm sure there's alot more but this will do for now.

I dont know a whole lot about those older tape decks, but the 1" studers are still being sold for like 6-8 hundred every now and then.

You know, lately all I have been hearing is how vinyl is comming back. also i heard of some band recently launching their album on 8-tracks. I would not be surprized if a small demand for all analogue studios started happening in the near future.

also, i saw a mackie d8b on ebay earlier today... pretty nifty!

the studer tape machines (of any size tape) go for much more than that if they are calibrated, well maintained, and in good condition. All analog studios are still around (daptone records' studio for example) and more and more will pop up as tastes in how music sounds make their cycles. People are getting tired, bored even of the sterile sound of recordings made digitally today and that's why we're seeing more and more tape emulators pop up....just check out Empirical Labs and the Neve Portico unit. Those aren't the only ones...there are plenty more out there.
