Weird incompatibility issue, but what's the cause?

Sometimes when I export a folder to my 2500 with lots of samples (ie a sample pack), I occaisionally get multiple copies of the same sound instead of the different samples. I can't work out what the problem is because when I connect the MP to my computer and audition the samples from the MPs hard drive everything works fine until I disconnect again.

Anyone know what's happening here??

i'm not exactly certain but i believe this has something to do with an incompatibility between the format of your computers harddrive & the format of your MPC drive (which you should have formatted in JJ OS). when you copy files from one to the other something goes wonky.

it could also be due to the 16 character filename limit on the MPC. if the files have a longer name on your computer, they will get truncated down when copied to the MPC, thus you might have what appear to be multiple copies of the same file becasue they all have had their names shortened to the same name. i've had this happen to me. it's best to do a bulk rename of any files you plan on copying to the MPC ahead of time to make sure that their names are only 16 characters long.

I just noticed that the files in question are over 16 characters long. I'll do a search anyway, but is there a free bulk rename bit of software you would recommend?

i'm on a Mac - i use an app called "a better finder rename".
works pretty good and has a lot of advanced options.
