1000 vs. 2000xl

1000 vs. 2000xl

Im new to all this and looking at 2 mpc's a 2000xl and a 1000, it seems the 1000 is a new model? but im not quite sure which one would be a better overall purcahse.. any suggestions?

The 1000 model is equipped with the newest soft and hardware, wave editing and a card reader.
The 2000xl has an oldskool sound, bigger pads and a tilt screen.


I prefer the 1000 with JJOS 2 (JJOS 2xl is to messy for me).

With that you can convert your samples to 12 bit for the oldskool sound (but not a 2000xl sound).

the 2000xl is better, but get the mpc 1000 because it is better.

the mpc 1000 is te one with the pad problems (the old blue and red ones were made with a defect of some sort that caused them to break. but there was a fix that stopped the problem)


they are even in my book

the xl is better for controlling a lot of midi devices, it has better pads, you can throw it at someone and actually hurt them badly, it has the anti-kneck cramp tilt screen, it also can take a card reader (i have zip and cf on my mpc)

the 1000 is better mainly because it has more RAM. also there are more features it can do... it just isn't built as well as the old machine so be gentle.

I have never tried MIDI on the xl. How does it work vs the 1000?

1k... the only 2 things that attract me to the xl is the 8 outs add on card and tilt screen... other than that, not much else...

the 1000 with JJOS upgrades is a lot more powerful with what you can do. Although since i purchased my 2000xl 2 months ago i have rarely turned on my 1000 and all I have done on it is resample some of my sounds through it or grabbed some stored sounds from it.
2000 has a better feel about it.
I will never get rid of either and i would purchase them both again if needed.

I will let lamp explain that one as he did in another thread... he explains how the 2000xl is capable of handling tree times more midi actions and notes and things like that. personally I dont use a lot of midi things but if that is something you do a lot of then the 2000xl might be the better choice.

when lampdog sees this maybe he will repeat himself again on that one.

I am playing with my new 2000xl right now. I have owned a few 1k's over the years. The 1k is super easy to use with a computer, from everything from chopping up your samples to archiving things to just easily transfering drums. I never owned an older MPC until today and the 2kxl is built so much better. The 1k feels like a toy.

I basically have taken all my "computer work" to software and tend to use machines standalone. For that reason, the 1k doesn't offer me anything more than the 2kxl. The 2kxl is better thought out with menu's IMO and other than that, pretty similar. I haven't had a chance to midi up my asr 10 to it but I would guess it is the same as the 1k. Depends on what you need.

If it came down down to feel, the XL would win hands down. Now if it was a choice between the XL and a 2500 then there's no relevent argument against the 2500 in my opinion, and I owned an XL for 10 years.

Save some extra cash if you can and go with the 1k's bigger brother. :wink:

1k = 100,000 recordable sequencer note events, it's in the manual.
2kxl = 300,000 recordable sequencer note events. notes (maximum 50,000 notes per sequence), it's in the manual.

I don't remember the thread but one member had run out of recordable note events in his 1k due to mass amounts of midi data being recorded from controllers.

In the 2kxl he'd have been able to record 3 times that amount of note events. But the normal user and even above that level usually don't even come close to using all the note events to max.

BUT, if you have several keyboards and controllers all running to the same sequencer and using alot of midi controls, yeah it can happen quickly.

Both have 32 midi channels.

1k can control more stuff than the 2k/2kxl nv slider I think/assume.

1k = midi sync
2kxl = MIDI clock and SMPTE (optional). SMPTE frame rates
supported are 24, 25, 29.97 drop and 30.

Whatever else u guys can figure out.
