Note Off, like on the 2000XL

I'm guessing this might have come up before, but I can't find it so...

My dear old 2000XL is falling apart so I recently got an MPC2500. My problem is. i can't find the "note off" setting. On the 2000XL you can set a sample to be triggered as "poly", "mono" or "note off". On the 2500 it's just "poly" or "mono". WTF? Where's the "note off"? I need that.

Can somebody please help? I'm sure it must be somewhere.

ok i can't remember on akai os, and i'm not with my mp now, but on jj..

goto the program screen,
highlight the sample,
press [window]
then you should be able to select note off.

that should be in the manual though bro..

tip: after selecting note off, mess with decay settings, and also in trim mode, play with the loop settings of the sample... if you don't already know about that stuff.

and get jjos if your not already down. i don't think akai os has the bounce back feature in loop. DOPE!!(for making notes longer).

Thanks, I'll try that when I get home. I still have the AKAI OS though. And yup, I'm well aware of all the cool things you can do with the note off. I've mostly used it for basses though. Find a nice thick and long bass note, sample it, and use note off and slider set to pitch to play some nice bass lines.

word.. this actually got me motivated to drive 30 mins to get my mpc and another stash of records. im out!!

Can you tell more about this? I'm rocking the Akai OS and that is completely new to me. A short explanation would be greatly appreciated, this function got me hella interested!

when in trim mode, you can set a loop by pressing f1[LOOP] or something, then in jjos you can switch between a normal loop[->]-(end back to start) or bounce back[<-] which will reverse the sample once it hits the end of where you set.

to be used with strings, piano, guitar, organ type samples that you just need that extra little bit of decay or length to fit what you are doing. then playing with envelope and filter settings to shape the sound etc. NOT suitable for drums, but can create some cool effects i suppose..

it simply creates the effect that the note is longer by reversing the sample and adding it to the original sample in a way, absolutely blew my mind away when i figured this out.. all by myself, consider yourself lucky i'm dropping gems like this.

oh and the sample should be set to note off, then you will get a tail of decay if you mess with those settings!!

this feature is only available in jjos if i'm not mistaken. i'm using jjos1 v4.99 with a 2500.

man, that IS a cool feature. I've done this manually lots of times in Cubase, hadn't dreamt someone actually would implement this in a sampler. Guess I need to check this JJOS-thing out someday.
