New akai vocoder/synth

and to think that AKAI used to be capable of releasing worthwhile analog synths way back in the day... my first synth ever was an AKAI AX-60 [somewhat similar to a JUNO 106]... that thing was built so well and heavy that it could fall off a plane and survive.

I agree with the majority of the posts here - I have the micron and it is a great synth for the money and footprint in my opinion, and (not that this matters much) looks pretty cool. Therefore if you buy the Akai synth you got a nice little synth but for more money, looks worse, and is made of crappy plastic. Just buy a micron.

Thats all well and good but for not a lot more you can buy one of these used...
This is what the Micron is based on and even patch compatible as it's the same but the Micron has improved/more FX I think but synthesis engine is the same...great sounding synths

Can that fit in what little studio space I have? Does that have an internal sequencer enabling creation of multitimbral performances? Does it have reverb / delay effects? Micron does and is best for me, but having said that if I had more room I would love an Ion! I do like knob twiddling!

So true, friend of mine had one, dammmm the bass out of that synth.

Question, on the Akai page for the Miniak it says:
The MINIAK has MPC-style step sequencing and recorder-style dynamic real time phrase sequencing. There’s also a drum machine/rhythm sequencer for the built-in drum sounds.

Is this on the Micron as well?

Yes, the Micron and the MiniAK are the same synth in different clothing. You can even use patches for the MiniAK with the Micron and vice versa. Only difference is wheels instead of sliders (I personally prefer the sliders on the Micron and the position of them is handy when playing) and the location of the screen, which I have to admit is a bit of an improvement. Step sequencer only for use with internal synth engine by the way - i.e. cannot use with external gear. And I prefer the look of the Micron but that is personal preference.

Sorry to bump such an old thread but just want to flag up that I have resurrected a blog on sound design on the Micron / Miniak! Been on a bit of a synth journey of late and actually sold my Microbrute to get the Micron again, yeah it's a pain to programme the Micron in comparison but I love my pads and I love the almost groovebox nature of using Setups.
