x0xb0x Assembly

Anyone know of a reputable shop that I can send mine to get assembled?
I've had it boxed up for 5 months now I am really busy with school and work taking up a majority of my time. I don't even have time for my music.
I tried Google but no sites were found to assemble it.

i'll do it for you. shipping to and from australia isn't that much. any idea how many hours assembly are required?
someone on here had a mate who was selling assembled XOXboxs. maybe sell him your kit and buy one of his asssembled ones.

Funny enough... I did think of that. But there aren't many Ham radio clubs out here in Qatar.
I found an electrician in Doha but he wanted 1000 QR ($275) + labor to put it together.

if you're going to have someone assemble it, you should consider some mods you may want to have done to it... or maybe someone there will trade you an assembled one for your parts + some extra cash... it's worth a shot... i'm loving my x0xb0x right now.

Finally! After 2 years of having the x0xb0x kit boxed up in parts, I'm finally putting it together.


I'm missing parts but purchased some from Mouser and heading soon to Radio Shack to get the rest of the missing resistors.
I'll check back and let ya'll know how's it going...

It's a Roland TB-303 clone that you have to piece together.

Honestly, it is easier now than ever to make your own x0xb0x. People have uploaded the x0xb0x circuit board printout, schematics and the bill of material (BOM) so you can source your own parts for cheaper. The MS Excel BOM file even has weblinks to the parts you need to order from several companies.

Ran into a snag... soldered the 5V voltage regulator backwards and fkd it up trying to desolder it. Now I go to go back to Radio Shack and buy another one.

Be careful, you might be able to get all the parts from Mouser or other venders, but most likely the sound won't the same as the original Roland TR-303.
Originally, x0xb0x kit sold by Lady Ada, was sold with all hand picked parts, and those parts were tested to have the same characteristic of the TR-303 (that has to be really pain staking task, if you ask me.)
Some of the transistors that were used on TR-303 are no longer available, made it very difficult for her to continue selling the whole kit. (I think that's the main reason why she is no longer selling it.) I was on the waiting list for the kit years ago, but it was discontinued from her website, so I never got the chance to buy it. (I'm no longer interested, so it was no big deal anyway.)
If you resource key parts from other vender, there is no guaranty that your x0xb0x will sound like TR-303.

I've done my research and there are about 5-6 good websites that tell you how to mod the x0xb0x to almost the specs of the TB-303. Mouser, DigiKey and dalbani.co.uk have the real deal parts for the x0xb0x. I'd steer clear of chipsforbrains for parts on ebay. They SUCK!!!!

Wow, previously owned by Marshall Jefferson (a Chicago House music legend, in case you've never heard of his name) TB-303! While I recognize his legend status, $10,000 sounds like a bit overpriced... Plus, I don't think Marshall Jefferson used TB-303 a lot on his productions.

I finished soldering the Power section and VCO last week. It doesn't look bad but I still need to test out the VCO section with a oscilloscope or by listening to the output.


Next up to complete this weekend is the VCO and Envelope section.
