MAKE A 5000 OS...

AKAI's IS JUNK. ILL PAY YOU 500 A COPY.

BOLD :wink:

Shit if you can afford a 5000 then you probably got money to burn.

One thing I would kill for is a classic step sequencer based on the 16 pads.
I my mind it would work like this:
- Press shift plus a button;
- Select a track with a program/drum (or midi out)
- On the screen you select note/duration/velocity (with the function buttons)
- you press the pad were you want the note on
- You select another note/sound and repeat until you have your nicely programmed pattern
Ideally the pattern plays while you program it, that would be heaven!

If needed, you can always micro manage the pattern in "pattern mode" copying, pasting, adding swings/shuffle.

I had this idea while looking at the intro video of N.I. Maschine.

what you described sounds like what pretty much already exists in pattern mode. as for entering events based on pad hits: go into GRID EDIT, put your cursor somewhere in the sequence and hit the NUMERIC button. now hit some pads & see what happens.

agreed - I have 2xl and love it even more last night when I discovered pattern mode.

However what I'd like is the ability to assign patterns with more than one pad/sound. The way I understand it - you select the pad - then the pattern - and youre away.

But what would be great is if you could use different drum sounds in the same pattern, but still using pattern mode.

At the moment Im using pattern mode to add swing to my hi hats while recording the bass and snare in the standard way (grid edit). What I'd like though is to be able to do all the drums via pattern mode on the one pattern.

I didn't know that, and for a few things it works beautyfully, but I have a few big complains about this mode:
- Selecting the pads is painful and time consuming! (Unless it's pad 1 to 6);
- Can't select the duration of the notes (unless you switch to pattern mode);

To be honest, I was on Xl, I went back to OS2 to try this, and I would gladly lose Chord mode and Arpeggiator in exchange for a deeper/more streamlines step sequencer.

Now, let's ony hope that MPC sequencer is out soon, so JJ can work on improving XL...

When working with "sequence edit" I'd like the system to remember:
1. Bar position.
2. Last entered values.

It keeps resetting everything whenever I make an edit.

1. There's no reason to reset the bar to 1 - better to stay where I am in a sequence.
2. Often one needs to undo an edit and adjust a prameter when using sequence edit. Also I might to do similar actions on many tracks. I can see no reason what so ever having to enter all the values once again. It's better if the last used values are kept in the "sequence edit" window.

I was doing a new beat these days and I was thinking of very little worflow improvement on drum grid mode and 16 levels.

In grid edit it would be nice if when pressing the Fkey for DELETE you could select a range by pressing one pad first and then another one instead of down arrow. It would also be cool when pressing DELETE if BAR < and > could delete the data instead of turning the data wheel.

I dunno what you think about 16 levels but I hardly use it. I had a kick with too much attack and decided to do 16 levels but first pad is just like ATTK=6 and second pad ATTK=12. I think it is a bit awkward if you can't set value and increments.

I got some graphic bugs too but not so important.

Wanted to make sure that this feature wasn't there before requesting.

It would be extremely handy to have a running timer playing while a sample was playing in trim mode. This would be really handy for samples longer than 15 seconds when I'd like to roughly know the position of a particular kick/snare/whatever without having to go through all that waveform editing stuff.
Nothing complex - literally just have a stopwatch style timer run while a pad is held down and sample played.

i know there are work arounds for this, but they take time and creativity gets lost doing so..

**audio tracks/direct record**

so i fill up 8 audio tracks quickly, usually recording takes of my bro on guitar/bass. it's such a sick tool for laying down ideas with a session player(ok i need to step my e-game up but like using the mp)..

but instead of manually finding the take, and assigning to a drum track.
i could see this being a feature to automatically assign takes from audio tracks to drum tracks, in two button presses or something..

another work around i thought of which is only seamless if you have your song sequenced out..... you can have the option of 8 audio tracks per part of song... intro/verse/hook etc..

^still yet to try that one, coz you need to work like that from the start or have a song finished then do takes. but i like to use audio tracks for building block to get the song going most the time...

i just find when i fill up 8 audio tracks i get flustered trying to reslove the issuse quickly, meanwhile session player is twiddling thumbs.. ok session players get payed.. i mean my brother doesn't have the patience for mpc editing mosttimes and i get left with an unfinished song.

i probably could have explained that a bit clearer...

oooh, maybe i should try sync the fantom and utilize those 8 audio tracks.. but that's not the workflow i want.

peace!

Expand pattern mode.

Im pretty sure Im not the only one who's 'chopped down' back from 2XL to OS 2 because of pattern mode.

There is so much more that could be done with this. For example..

1) Expand the number of bars that can be programmed at once
2) Insert samples rather than just chops.

A small but useful feature I guess : When you are in trim mode and you're looping, it would be dope to have a range of pad dedicated to the LOOPING START POINT (not the normal start point)

os2XL 1.16 is pretty **** up regarding start and end point listening right now. Plus i think i had a bug, when you press window on start or end point to go to the zero cross point window, it seems that only the END window shows up.

Peace

I NEEEEED a STEP SEQUENCER in the next version. It would be very simple. The 16 pad could represent the 16 step and (for example) user could select the specified sample with the jog. Phyisically 64 step would be accessible with the 16 pads and the 4 bank selector, but user could "flip" the page to the next 64 step with (for example) the next and prev buttons. When pad + shift would be pressed the desired sample pitch would be selected on the specified step by using jog or a pad directly. PLEEEEASE! :)
