MPC 60 Floppy drive comparition

My Mitsubishi MPC drive is death. R.I.P., but i like to buy a new one. Of course, i read MPC 60 Bible first, and understand about jumpers and stuff. I have 1 TEAC drive - it's FD-235HF-8291, it without any jumpers and don't working with my 60II. Then i go on ebay and find couple of TEAC drives. Some with more jumpers, some with less. What drive i should buy?

None of the above. They look like standard PC drives and won't work since the Drive Select is different for the MPC than a PC. If you search the forums, some people have found success using a Chinon 357-A or other drives made for Amiga computers.

You cannot use any Teac FD235HF drives that you can find. Only few revisions of them are compatible with the 60 and you can spot each revision by the code number after the HF initials.

Yes Chinon drives are used for Amiga computers.
Do you know if external Amiga drives can be used with the MPC60?

Chinon is very large drive, i think. It fits to mpc's drive slot?

The Chinon drive (FB354) is 3,2 cm, usual pc drives are 2,5 cm. The biggest drive that I've seen is the s900 drive (Mitsumi D357). Its 3,5 cm.

But I dont know the size of the 60s drive slot. It seems to be 2,5 cm but i'm not sure

Oh another drive that might work (worked in my s900) and got the small size is the Mitsumi D357T2. It was also build in the Amiga 500 and/or 1200. And thats the problem cause mine got no faceplate and i dont know if there is onefor that drive.

MPC60MKII drive is 2.9/10.5cm.

There's a bit margin in the slot where the drive goes -- make sure you are measuring the drive dimensions and not the dimensions of the bezel since this doesn't need to be flush and can stick outside the case.

Most drives where you can change the Drive Select and Ready Output signals will work in a MPC 60. A majority of the time you will need to modify the drive to get it to work -- on the TEACs it's a simple as changing jumper wires, on other drives you have to cut traces, route wires and solder resistors etc...
