New Drive New Floppy No loose Cables Disk Read Error

Tried finding if someone already posted something about this same situation, but no luck. Sorry if I missed it.

I've had my MPC 2000 since 1999. Got the pesky "Disk Read Error" while booting up. Put the OS on a fresh new floppy and everything was butter. Happened again years later, took the same steps. No luck. Put in a new drive...again everything was butter. Same thing happened again a few years later. Fresh disk with OS. Switched out drive. Made sure there were no loose cables, dusted it out. "Disk Read Error".

I'm about to give Akai a call and see if I can send it in, but was hoping someone might have some more suggestions before I have to shell out who knows how much loot for it. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Also, make sure the ribbon cable on the drive isn't on upside down -- but I would agree with Fung45 -- get a new floppy and put the OS on it and see if it works.
