I have ProTools 5.3.1 WinXP, MOTU Fastlane USB (for Triton and MPC2k), and mixer... When I set the MIDI in the MPC2k, notes are only played back when I select the 1A next to [ MIDI: 1A ] and hit open window. I have to leave this window open in order for the notes to be transmitted and received, cuz once it closes, the notes dont play. I have set "Soft Thru" to OFF and ON and messed with every setting, no dice..... And the weird thing is when I leave Soft Thru ON and close the window, the MPC2k will sound the first pad I hit, but the MPC2k input in ProTools maxes out/clips, freezes position at peak level (despite the note has stopped playing) and locks up! I want to hook up MIDI with ProTools/MPC2k to edit my drum grooves, so this is a serious problem for me. I would appreciate any help.

Much Love.....

Do you have oms setup? U need to go into the snyc window of your mpc and setup your midi i/o to whichever port you have your midi cables in..eg; A or B, set your fps too 30 (not drop frame), selectb MTC. go back to main page hit play........it should say "waiting for TC". go into PT's display drop list go into sessios setup select MTC box and choose MPC. Hit play in protools mpc should chase. I am not in front of my sys right now, but this is something I have been doing for years. If you do not have a mtc interface...eg; studio 4 then you need to setup up PT as slave.......go into setups>>periphials and select generic TC reader........remember to deactivate MPC as slave in sync window.......turn everything off!! hope this helps!!

I recently figured out the problem. I switched out of [MIDI:1A] back into [DRUM:1A] and the MIDI connection still worked and I could record the drums. This set-up doesnt make sense to me but it works. Thank you all for the support..... :D
