Anyway to make every pad mute eachother? (Searched)

I recently bought a 2kxl. I was loving the machine at first, so much nicer than my 1k in build quality/feel. I installed a card reader asap.

I was about 5 min into sequencing my first song when I realized that each pad can only be muted by two other pads. This bugs me for 2 reasons. First, I need to know where I am going before I make a song, or set everything to note on and go back. Second, I often need more than 2 pads to mute another.

I just can't find the answer. I have been able to get this to work on my asr 10 and s2000 rack by adjusting envolopes which I just can't seem to find on this machine.

Is it possible?

Nope, that's all you get, that mute assign is all you get.

You can try to chain mute pads together?!?!

I think someone said up to 4 chains can work or something.

ie

1 mutes 2,3 -> 3 mutes 4,5 -> 5 mutes 6,7 -> 7 mutes 8,9.

I've never tried it but that's what it looks like when written out.




That's got to be one of the biggest debates around, people want that build and pad feel of the 2k/2kxl
but the 1k is just way more advanced, I always suggest the 1k.

You should even be able to combine simult with it...play up to 3 Pads together, each one muting 2 others.

Just wanna let you know: That mixer on your sc page seem to be an ecler I know that one from the old days and always wondered what kind of drugs the designer was on when he did the line faders in this angle. :)
But is has to be a very old version cause I couldn't find a pic whith that kind of faderknobs

100 points. It's an Ecler SMAC42, very solid if you just need to combine a little more then only 2 turntables (and if you don't plan to use the crossfader...). I loved the independent dual-monitoring outs with extra Cinch outs each. Never seen that on any mixer since.

just do trick..

take a pad you dont need (maybe one over in the D bank) and set that pad as the mute. you may have to assign a silent sound bit to the pad (i haven't needed to use this trick too many times and it was a long time ago that i did this)

anyways that one pad that basically make no sound, set it to mute every pad with samples assigned to it. then with that you should be able to mute everything.

play with that technique... even use it with note repeat... maybe you will get some sort of cool glitch patterns.

Do this cool trick:
1. Set all your pads to Note Off
2. Press and hold down the pad with the sound you want to hear/sequence assigned to it
3. When you want the sound to stop, release your finger from the pad rapidly

I use one hand and am used to it so this makes it very hard to be seemless. I found if I do this, switch things back to mono, then do the mutes, it's the easiest. Still irratating when coming from a later model mpc and using software in a similar way to an mpc. It's not terrible, it's just something that I would rather not relearn right now. I wish I could just put my 1k's hardware in my 2kxl's case.

this is just one of those things the 2kxl does NOT have. so be creative and find another way to do it.
chop your samples right, use note off (i have a midi keyboard that i use for the note-off thing. its easier for me than to do it with the pads), do the chain thing.

you just got to know your gear well enough to work around these problems.

technically you can mute up to 6 pads with 1 pad by setting up 3 pads to mute 2 pads each and have 1 pad trigger all 3 pads. it can be done by assigning a sample to to each pad you need to use as an extra mute and turning the sample all the way down. in all honesty my beats were more creative when i was using the old 2000 classic. compared to the 1000 or 2500 where you can set the program to mono.
