Myspace used to be a great tool to contact artists and a&r's but it's gotten old quick with the amount of spam that gets sent out everyday.

I'd start by pursuing local artists first. Get your buzz in your city. It helps to toss out the "free" track every so often but only to the right people. Dont waste your time on "rappers". Look for the artists in your city that are actually trying to do something.

Keep your head up and keep grinding.

If your really trying to sell your tracks to live off of, make what appeals to the current market. I know that theres that fine line of being true to yourself and what not but . . . when it comes time to eat thats a whole different story. Just make sure you know who your dealing with so that your music can appeal and apease that specific demographic.

I know this is gonna sound silly.. but try going to a "music" school. A lot of people think it's a place for learning only, but it's a good place to network and interact with people. People who are like-minded and in the same industry is you. Maybe an engineer, knows another engineer, who knows this rapper blah blah blah.

"But doglamp, that has nothing to do with MC's at all." Yeah, I know but you've tried a "direct" approach so now try an indirect one (it's still kinda direct, lol).

And, remember why you got into making beats in the first place. Because you LOVE the music.

Oooh, try making remixes and uploading them. To showcase what you can do! How versatile you are, or what style of music your beats are best suited for, blah blah blah.

There's so many things you could do, why the negativity dude.

Good point and thats the only reason i'd go to a "music" school but that type of networking is a little to rich for my blood . . . and . . . im poor lol.

i've actually had a few mc's online from youtube hear my beats and we've collabo'd a bit. i've also collabo'd with a few local mc's that i've known since jr high that are trying to make a name for themselves.

for the most part, i'd start off locally, because then you get real life contact with people that actually may know people higher up and can get you going places. music is all about connections. so make as many as possible. thats what im trying to do.

your r right! feels that Im completely drowned in the myspace jungle of folks producing beats.
I should make some reallife contact with mc's instead!
