CANT RECORD FROM MOTIF XS6

Hey guys! i recently purchased a yamaha motif xs6 and am now trying to use it via midi with my 2500. now, i'm in pattern/song mode on the motif, and i'm hearing the motif sounds when i select the corresponding track/channel but whenever i hit record on the mpc, i can only hear back what i play on the mpc pads themselves. whenever i play on the motif, it does'nt seem to recordk when i hit playback on the mpc. so i cant play a piano part or any chords on the motif. instead i have to play the motif sounds i want to record from the pads of the mpc.i'm sure its one small thing but i can;t figure it out....AAARRRRGGGHHHH!

do you only have midi connections going from the 2500 to the motif?

but i am getting audio from the motif, i am playing the motif sounds from the mpc pads. i just cant record the motif sounds by playing them on the motif itself.should i be running another midi cable tfrom the motif back to the mpc?

You need to run a stereo pair of 1/4" outs to the input of the MPC.

bro, maybe i didnt explain myself clearly. i dont need to run audio imput to the mpc cause i'm already getting sound from the motif via a pair 1/4 " cables going into my mbox2 pro. i am not trying to get sounds from the mpc...or into the mpc. i just wanna be able to use the mpc sequencer with the sunds from the keyboard.

ok hold up maybe I did misread it, you just want the MPC to control the start/stop of the Motif? So when you start the MPC the motif plays with it?

i want to use the mpc as the sequencer,yes. right now it only works when i play the motif sounds from the mpc pads.

is the motif set to MIDI? The area on the screen where the BPM's normally are should read MIDI. Im not in front of my MPC right now but thats where the issue is, if noone else chimes in ill post up the setting when i get home.

do you have midi in and out running between the motif and the mpc?
when you select the track you wanna record the midi data to on the mpc are you setting the midi port and channel on the mcp (ie. 1A)

connecting the OUT of the motif to the IN of the mpc will allow you to record midi data into the mpc from the motif, and connecting the OUT of the mpc to the IN of the motif will allow the mpc to TRIGGER/PLAYBACK the data you recorded. its a two way street. record and playback. first u wanna record midi data via the keys of the motif to the mpc, and then the mpc has to trigger that data.
If you know all of that, and have this all setup properly then you have an incorrect setting, or are missing a setting.
Is your local set to on or off? are you familiar with local mode?
you said you CAN trigger the motif from the mpc so obviously you have turned the midi channel on, but when you play from the motif you can hear the audio but are not getting midi into the mpc.. correct?

trace the issue from there.
my guess.. is you need to CONNECT THE MIDI OUT OF THE MOTIF TO THE MIDI IN ON THE MPC!!

but hey its just a guess. think of it like a road with one side paved. you can get to where your going, but how are u gonna get back? Midi is capable of transmitting 16 channels at once but ONLY in one direction. thus we need ins and outs.. or better yet SENDS and RECEIVES







yo pound, this is the second thread like this circulating on the board right now. We need to put together some kind of sticky that covers the BASIC BASICS of getting started with audio and midi, or at least a sticky with a LINK to a site that already offers it and direct every one of these Questions to the sticky to read first.

If in which case they do that and follow all the directions and still have a minor issue then replies would be in order...
otherwise, this is repetitive as fark

Did you READ WHAT I TYPED .. carefully and in detail?
the answers are there.

if you HAVE read what I typed and TRIED that and still have issues,
then please reply with EXACTLY what you have connected to where.

obviously the gear does the same thing from user to user, so the error is somewhere in the way you have set everything up no doubt.

SIMPLE QUESTION... Do you have BOTH the midi IN and OUT of the motif running to the Mpc?

Yes, i have midi running into and out of both instruments. yes i did read what you posted. yes, i have turned local control off on the motif.yes, i already knew everything you said. i'm realizing that whatever i'm not doing correctly is probably with the motif. that's why i've asked about a similar setup.
