Okay, how do I add like "brief pauses" between sequences. I've found that many of my sequences, even when using the next sequence feature, seem to run right into each other without any kind of rhythm, like two trains colliding. I wanted to know if there is any techique for having some kind of rhythmic pause between two sequences?

you probably need to get your sequences a bit tighter ;)

in song mode you could save a blank sequence of one bar and insert it between sequences...

I'm not doubting you on that one, but give me a clue on how to do this.

play to the metronome, keep you bpms the same, get the kicks on the one and 3, etc. you may be doing all that already, but from what you are saying, that's all I can give you.

Are you using samples?

2 ways.

Method 1.
Turn off quantize and play a lil early at the end of a sequence and late at the begining of the next.

Method 2
Insert a tempo change at the last bar of your sequence to slow down your sequence. Try 4:04:72 for a 4 bar loop. Try inserting this after all your musical information of the last bar. I had to do this for a vocal sample once.

What I do to cause that "break" or "drop" is basically assign a sample of nothing but "air" that is short (long enough for the pause you want) and have that "air" sample mute off the main samples in your sequence...after that just erase the percussions that are left in the "air pause".

Or even simpler: make a real short sequence of nothing (tsig 2/4 or something) and play that sequence b/w the ones you wanted the pause for.

It's worked for me.

Could you explain what you mean by muting off the main samples and what percussions would be in the air pause?

I don't understand what your asking. Why dont' you just program a pause in your sequences.

Yeah...I was kinda vague on that.

When you go into the prog param screen (shift f6) and hit the open window key under "overlap" you'll see you can mute out anothers pad's sound. Basically make the pad that has no sound ("air") mute out the samples in your sequence by assigning the right pads in the "mute assign" screen. After you record/place the pad with no sound in your sequence to mute out the samples that were playing...erase the drums or whatever is left in that "sampleless space" to end up with a soundless pause. Then go forward a few ticks/steps in your sequence from that point and start programing your sh*t as before. End result = pause in the sequence while your timing and bpms stay constant. Hope that cleared things up.

Drop = when a sound or element of the beat is taken out to switch the feel of the track.

Which is exactly what I'm asking. Well, really how to do it correctly with some kind of rhythm.

if you want to do it live, or just want to play around and find the spots you want pauses at you can always simply solo an unused sequencer track too. select an un-used track in the main screen, play your song, hit solo and you get instant mute of everything. just hit solo again to bring everything back in.
