Volume Knob Issues

Messing around with my mpc today and every time I touch or graze the volume knob it(sound) cuts in and out...Now the volume knob seems to be pretty loose. Do I crack it open and try to tighten it?(can that even be done) Or do i got a more serious problem???
HELP ( it annoys the shit outta me!!!)

You may have two issues going on with your volume knob.

1) Pull off the plastic knob and make sure the locking nut that attaches the potentiometer is tightened down all the way to the case. You can finger tighten this down to see if it fixes the issue of being loose.

2)The potentiometer is likely dirty or broken. Get some contact cleaner or DeOxit and clean the potentiometer. You will need to get the solution inside the potentiometer to really clean it. If this doesn't work, perhaps the potentiometer is bad or one of the wires is damaged and will need to be replaced.

If it wobbles it's time for a replacement

not sure if VST or MPC Stuff sells em,

but if you have a local mouser, grainger, digikey, ax man, etc, (any electronics supplier)
you should be able to get a replacement for dirt

no time to check schematics for specs of the encoder for direct replacement, but shouldn't be tough

So I opened it up and tightened the nut around the base of the volume knob....And it is fine!!! Thanx for the help!

awesome news. mpc forums strikes again with the mpc first aid!

Anyway, that's most probably only a temporary fix. If the sound really cuts out when the pot is moved, it has to be a contact problem. The nut probably only prevents the pot sufficiently from moving.

I would go and remove the front cover to check the soldering on the pot.
