the MV 8000, even with the latest v. 3.54 OS, takes about 30 secs to load up.

Your machine better be worth it Beatkangz, for your sake.

and lol @ fater.

Jamon wrote:There's some truth to that, "proof is in the pudding", but that's proof of the recipe quality, the talent of the cook, not the usefulness of the tools. Give a master chef some knives and bowls from The Dollar Store and they can whip up something tasty. Give a thousand dollar appliance to someone with no skills and it doesn't mean what comes out will taste good.

I'm sure good music can be made with the Beat Thang, just as it can be made with a $10 tape-recorder from Radio Shack. It's just a question of whether or not the tools is right for us personally. We need data to make that decision. You're saying with all your marketing that, "If you're a hip-hop beatmaker, this is for you". So maybe they know.

For the other guys, they'll want all the tech specs so they can see if it fits their flow.

Yup specs open peoples eyes but if the build of the machine aint right whats the point?
If the machine has bugs then wats the point?
If the machine looks cool but is fragile whats the point?

It would be like owning a car that goes over 200mph but breaks down after 1000miles.

I want to know the build and ease of use and that wont happen till the machine is out.
Anyone preordering is stupid.

My 2500 boots in 10seconds and thats with my custom screen.

Well I might have only a fewer programs autoload? Not sure. Im not a big fan of autoload.

The screen is done with the JJOS1, JJOS2 and JJOS2xl.

I use the JJOS2. 8)
Its flawless.

Regarding 30-second boot time, it's not really fair to compare it to an MPC.

The Beat Thang is running a full OS, like your PC. The MPC is more specialized. That's why it's really not possible for them to make instant load times, or near-zero latency. This is just how it is right now with PC operating systems. But you have sleep, which is a suspend to ram like a laptop has.

So you should be able to just put it to sleep and wake it up faster than a cold boot. Hopefully there's a dedicated button to sleep, or the power button is software-assignable to sleep instead of shutdown. If it has to be done by going into a menu or something that'd slow your workflow.

good point, I do keep forgetting that and actually didn't realize the whole linux based system situation until you pointed it out.

It didn't look like there was any latency, but then again I don't get much on my pc, nothing I notice.

I just want to actually see it and use it man, that's the only way to know for sure

I gotta question for Jamon. To save you some research time, I do work for the Beat Kangz, but I am not one of the Kangz. Anyway, I have read just about everything you have said online about the Beat Thang, I feel I have grown to know you in a way. Ive seen your video of the unveiling. It was done nicely I might add. Very artsy. If anybody hasnt seen it, they do need to check it out.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QidB9JtPZ4 Imma whip up some dramatic music with my Virtual Thang so we can finish it off. I was just wondering, in your perfect music making world, what would you like to see the Beat Thang do?

The ideas are endless, here's a simple one...

You have 3 components: sampler, synth, audio.

You press the "Track 1" button, and select "Sampler".

Now your first track is a sampler, and you can cycle through saved kits, or hit record, then the pad you want a sound to go to, and sample some new sounds.

Hit the transport record button + play, then tap out your rhythm.

Then you press "Track 2", and select "Synth".

Here you can either select a soft-synth, or choose "External" to control an external device using MIDI out.

You hit the transport record again, play a melody, and there it is over your beat.

The music never stopped, it is seamless, it's been playing the whole time.

You've got the rhythm, and melody, now you press "Track 3", and select "Audio".

You've got your input meter, and you do a quick level set, "Mic check, 1 2".

Hit your transport record again, lay down some vocals.

Now you've got all those other tracks to fill it in with whatever you want.

Hit the "Mixer" button to set the levels, pan, and FX for all the tracks.

Then bounce your song down to a .wav, plug it into PC USB, and upload to the web.

The point is the fastest possible workflow, with all the tools you need.

Everything is realtime, can't stop the music or you lose the flow.

If you don't want to mix in there, just record all the tracks without ever touching the mixer, then when you bounce, instead of selecting the master mix, hit separate tracks. Then you get a separate .wav for every track. Now you can drop those in your PC multitrack software to mix in there, adding FX and all that.

Jamon wrote:You want tech specs?

You replied to some of my pending questions with that, I'm now 97% convinced on the virtual, I only the Kangs to make it available online.

One thing I like about your page and posts is that they really feel unbiased.
