Having trouble making beat

I'm having trouble making beats on my mpc-I've tried to slow the tempo down/take off T.C. etc. but my beat still seems either "lame" or slightly off time.

I listen to a lot of hip-hop and I just can't seem to really get the bass-snare-highhat lined up. I'm having trouble mixing in samples as well.
I know there's tutorials on this site for hip hop making---maybe someone can supply me with a video to help me with my troubles?

Have you tried YouTube? There are hundreds, if not thousands on videos.

Search how to make make beats mpc and see what comes up. If you are have an issue with timing, you may want to sit down and listen to a song and see if you can figure out the BPM and the rhythm pattern.

The book is very well written, I would highly recommend it.

You just have to keep experimenting untill you get it right. Try doubling the tempo and change the Time Signature to 8/4.

I suggest you practice with the metronome until you get the sense of it. Practice at a slow speed then practice at a high speed and listen to them and pinpoint your mistakes.

Ya I'm having trouble with timing and with trying to get the right "boom-bap" rhythm down---(kick drum+snare/clap). I know that snare usually goes on "2/4" but the kick drum lay down is confusing to me.
I'll check out the links supplied and see if I can figure this out.

oh I have a mpc 1000 btw

sample a 2 or 4 bar boom-bap pattern you like. loop it on the mpc and play over the top. then mute the loop.
or use grid edit to program in the pattern, then turn off timing correct and play over the top.

i do this for cowbell patterns and stuff that uses triplets.
