MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Hello Gang.
My setup includes a Motif & MPC 5000 (my 1st MPC).
Became a fan of MPC sequencer.
Converting a song into a wav. file seems fairly simple.
What if I have midi tracks that are triggering sounds from the Motif?
Is it as simple as hooking up the audio outs (Motif) into audio ins (MPC) during the final stage of arranging a song?

much delayed thank you's to all helpful users (JPERS)
just tryin to catch up to yall.

mpc is addictive.

there are two ways,

you can create your sequence/song in its entirety, and when you 'mixdown' to your final .wav, you can tell it to 'include' external audio 'input'

including anything along with any effects into and through your master effects and into the final .wav

'or', as you sequence something from the motif, you can simply use one of your audio tracks to record that part into your song.

i personally have a Moog synth, and i choose to wait until mixdown, and then record analogue audio inputs, but the choice is up to you. ; )

Hey oneday2one, when you add your analogue audio tracks to the final mixdown in the MPC what's your audio cable set up like? Are your audio cables going from your Moog audio outs to your MPC record ins? Because I have some tracks that I have already recorded via midi from my sound module into the MPC. Will I have to re-record them using audio cables hooked from the MPC and the sound module or can I just set up the MPC to receive the audio from the sound module since the midi data has already been recorded. I hope this makes sense to you.

well, if you mean that you have an external sound module, and you recorded 'midi' alone, that is only 'information' and yes, you will have to include external audio 'ins' in your final mixdown.

but if you went to HD record, added audio tracks, and already have recorded audio from your external sound module through the MPC 5000's audio inputs into one or two of the 8 HD audio tracks, where you can see and hear the audio, then you will not have to 're-record' anything at all.

audio is audio, and once recorded, it is where it is.

midi is just information.

when you think about the 8 track HD recorder, think about the old multitrack recorders from the 90's. it is what it is, like recording onto a cassette tape, accept the editing functions of the 5000 would be a million times better, just not better than a modern day DAW.

but i don't currently even use a modern day DAW, because i learn to make it work, and like to set limits for myself. but that's just me.

i hope this answers your question. ; )

Okay, I think I get it! I'm going to have to go back and re-do all of my external sound module parts because I only have the data recorded. So do I connect my audio cables to two of my external sound modules individual outs to my MPC record in? And then set it up to direct record the external audio?

when you open the 'mixdown' screen, one of the checked boxes says something like, "include audio input",

but you have to set the audio input up so you can hear what you want to record.
you do this by pressing the audio input button, and selecting various inputs, like digital, analogue left/right/stereo, rca, adat, etc.

but mainly, as long as you can "hear" what you want to record when you press play in song mode, then all you have to do is make sure to check the box that says include audio input and you should be good.

experiment and learn, this is the fun part for you. ; )
