I'm really feeling Grouch's sounds lately and I know he just used ghetto presets probably, but dudes shit is dope to me anyway

I second Primo... He has the clearest lo-fi drums I've ever heard... They're deep, but you still feel every Frequency at the perfect level... I'd imagine it has to be in his mastering... Cause he samples off of some vinyl that you know has to be really old, dusty and full of static... Gotta leave him wit the loss of some frequencies and some punch once he's done filtering... But you still feel them hard as sh*t

I said Premo and it still holds true... But as far as Programming I may have to go wit some newer cats... RJD2 has mastered chopping breaks... And Diplo has taken break chopping to a new level... But just for sheer sounds... Premo is it...

im feeling Prince Rakeems drums... patterns are usually pretty basic, but overall they usually slammin...

This is how I'm feeling at the moment, it might be totally different next week!

1) Hardness - Premier! It's strange that his sh*t slams so hard yet at the same time feels soft like a baby's skin... I don't know how he does it, but he surely has "it", whatever it is... Good example: Outta Here by KRS-one! That beat pumps so hard it's almost too much!!!

2) Drum patterns - It's a tie: Premier and Doom. They are total opposites and that's why I can't put one over the other! Primo for the classic boom bap and Doom for the quirkiness (is that a word?)!

3) Realness of sounds - Dunno if this is a good or a bad thing.. depends on the track! Anyone can get realistic sounds using the akai cd-rom, but it's another thing if it actually sounds good...

By the way shouldn't this be in the production techniques?

i guess you guys actually never seen dre in the studio. Um, for alot of his tracks, he does do the drums. But for some, he doesnt.

I would have to say Dre, Jay Dee, and Nottz.. Its true Dre may not create everything on his tracks, but you still gotta mix the kicks and snares properly to get that thumpin sound so for that he gets props..
