When I switch on my standard MPC1K and go into the load page, the wave free memory is only 11.4MB. I have autoloading switched off, so shouldn't I have a total of 16MB??

Thanks.

im not sure but i think its because there are those preset songs and samples in the internal memory... there is a format function when going into the load/save menu bit i cant remember where tho...

Yea its ok, thats how it works, I have 128mb installed and when you check in record mode it says, i forget, i think 112mb or something like that of recording time. You see your mpc uses 11.4mb for wav. and the rest of the 4.6mb for sequences, prg, and even text.

I still get less memory than expected even without Autoload active: I think it's loading the OS into RAM too.

Its totally understandable that a portion of the RAM is set aside specifically for program, seq, and even OS related data. I only ask because on page 79 of the manual, the wave free memory in the display reads 16MB?
