Couple o' questions

I am new to the MPC (just got my 1000 last week), but not new at all to making music with computers, keyboards, etc.. I just have a couple of questions that I can't seem to find in the manual.
1) How do I go about mapping a sample to the entire range of a MIDI keyboard that I would plug into the MPC? (a standard procedure on a sampler)
2) After recording a pattern, how do I precisely edit the time an event occurs in the step editor?

for the question on editing event times in the step editor:

you can't adjust individual event times in the step editor (yes its retarded, but whatever). what most people do is cut/paste.

say you want to move a event in step edit...

1)select the event in step edit (say its at 002.02.00)
2)copy that event (hold f3 then hit f4)
3)go to the time section (press left arrow key under the jog wheel)
4)set the time to whatever you want (lets say 001.01.95)
5)paste the event (hold f3 then hit f5)
6)go back to the event section (press the down arrow)
7)delete the old original event (select it then press f4)


after listening to it, if you didnt paste the event in the correct time you wanted, then you just gotta do the whole process over. its kinda dumb considering how easy it would probalbly be for them to add an easier way of doing this in an os update, but whatever. you get used to it eventually.

copy the sample and tune it accordingly, no other way on the 1000.

Stereoroid has some information and utilities that will help you get to grips with the MPC: -

BLANK-MELODIC.PGM will help a little, but you will still have some wheel spining and button pushing to do yourself - tuning, etc.

I really like the 1000--a lot of features for the money. But even my old Alesis MMT8 would allow direct-entry event time changes!

To eliminate one step, after copying the event I want to move, I just go ahead and delete it, then continue with the paste procedure.

Hopefully, Akai will streamline this in a future OS.

Damn, that is really weak that those features are not included. I don't know what they're trying to prove by not including them, but IMO mapping a sample to the MIDI key range is a BASIC functionality of ANY sampler and not including it is like selling a car without seats. Also, it seems quite retarted that there's no way to just change the time an event occurs. This seems like it would be super easy to impliment.

i've gone back and forth with akai in emails, asking them about why you cant edit event times in step edit.

they're main answer to me was that...

1) "you can cut and paste"

2) "if you wanted advanced features like that you should have bought a 2000xl or a 4000."

anyway, PLEASE, anyone that thinks its ridiculous that this feature is missing should email akai and ask them why they took it out.

they could have at least left the early/late shift feature from the older mpcs in there. there's absolutely no point to them taking it out....
