I'm way new at digging here, and have no idea how to recognize whats going to be on a record... just to get me started, what are some good pianists to look for?

Look in the jazz section. Theres other good genres full of great players too. Look on the back and see if theres any info on the instruments. Youll begin to see who runs the table the best on what ever your looking for. Ill name one "George Winston".

Start with some easy pulls like: ahmad jamal, ramsey lewis, les mccann, herbie hancock, joseph zawinul(sp?), bob james, bill evans, donny hathaway .... head towards the direction that you prefer, whether its jazz/soul/funk/rock. put in the work

btw, Fvck George Winston/Windam hill terd fest.. :?

I resume this old post, since I'm listening to some good shit that would fit a piano sampling quest.

I'll leave you with three names, just dig for their records, mostly from the golden 70s...

- Warren Bernhardt

- David Sancious

- Errol Garner

Have fun.
