No. "Digging" implies looking for samples on records (usually found in crates - hence "digging in the crates"). If you get someone to bring records to you, then that person did the digging. However, if you go online and d/l mp3's, not only did someone else do the diggin for you, (by finding, owning and posting up said album), you also have no acces to the record or a crate. Therefore mp3 users aren't really doing any digging.
Plus dudes like kanye, just blaze and 9th all used records, dug for records, own records, and can have a intelligent discussion about the music contained on those records, the labels, the artwork, the musicians and producers, runout numbers, etc -something that mp3 users can't do as easily since most mp3's lack artwork or label scans.

Then that person is doing the digging, as well as co-producing (if they are chopping up breaks for you to use). If they found the actual record, then I would say it's not worse than mp3's, because digging was still done somewhere along the chain of events. Mp3 users aren't digging. Going online and d/l'ing from blogs, torrents or youtube is not digging, no matter how bad anyone wants it to be. As for Marley Marl, when he made all the Cold Chillin' classics, he was using records - so he gets a pass from me. As for today - I can't comment. What was the last hot Marley beat you heard? Oh, and you can produce without being a digger, and you can dig without producing.
People don't want to admit it, but if you have never gone out into the real physical world, found records, studied them and knowledged yourself about labels, artists, songwrtiters, musicians, pressings, matrix #'s and so on - then bought some based on this knowledge or hunches (or a portable turntable, lol) and come back to the crib and gone through hours of shitty wack music to find an ill drum break or crazy loop or sick sample - YOU HAVEN'T REALLY DUG IN THE CRATES.
FIN.
