Hi im a new owner of MPC500. I has bought 256 Kingston RAM on it. But errors do not give possibility to understand and normally work on my MPC. They arise in work time and constantly I have to reboot the MPC. Its really annoying!!! Are these problems are connected with ram??? (Sorry fo my bad english, Im from Ukraine )

I havent these problems when Ram it isnt connected

well, it could be helpfull to read the f....... manual - the MPC500 runs only with 128MB Ram!

Yeah, but to use the non standard MPC RAM for the 500/1000 you need to get the 256MB chip.

That's a different question... it's likely he at least got the right size though

Well I've heard people using Kingston with success. Maybe Akai got pissed and made the newer 500s to receive Akai-only RAM.

Not true. Do a search. There are many issues of partial compatibility where the machine operates however it is inconsistant.

Are you thinking of CompactFlash memory instead of RAM? I can't think of why any incompatible RAM would work with the MPC500, but not work consistently. There's a quick RAM test, and if it passes, it's compatible. There's also a longer test to check for errors. If it's incompatible, like you put in a 512MB chip, it won't recognize and boot with it. If people say their RAM works, but there's problems, they might be blaming unrelated bugs on it.

Nope I meant RAM. I had similar issues when I first picked up my Motif. I picked up RAM that seemed to work. I was able to sample, create sequence, save and everything. But occasionally I would get errors on the screen where the machine would just lock up. A quick swap out to RAM that was 100% compatible and I never had a problem. Mind you this was in 03 when the machine was new and the issue never returned.

Seems like that would be caused by 1 of 2 things, either the RAM was faulty, in which case the memory test should find errors, or the machine runs it at a set speed and your specs are too low so it's unstable at that speed.

I'd be surprised if there's any RAM being sold now that is compatible with the MPC500, but unstable at whatever speed they run it at. This is old tech, most anything you can buy now is probably rated too high for the MPC500.

I gotta Kingston 128mb in mine...werx like a charm
