Mute a Pad

I was looking for another way to mute just one pad during playback, not in song mode. I feel like I've scoured the manual and see things like mute program but nothing about hitting a series of buttons to just mute or un mute a pad on the fly, am I missing it?

You could have the pad in it's own track and just do the track mute on the fly...

hmmm, yeah, I know of that route but I was hoping for semething like hitting Mode plus shift and then a pad so it would mute quickly, something like that but maybe that doesn't exist.
