CANT RECORD FROM MOTIF XS6

and you have turned on the appropriate/corresponding midi channel on the mpc track your using?

have you tried playing with the midi settings in the mpc?
the active track receive channel, and or soft thru?

cause if you can trigger the motif FROM the mpc pads I would presume the midi channel on the track is set correctly and the mpc is sending a midi signal to the motif, and the motif is receiving it and thus playing what you are triggering on the mpc..
but you are not able to play the motif keys and record the midi data into the mpc.

So it has to have something to do with the midi signal you are sending to the mpc.
double and triple check that you have the midi out of the motif going to the correct midi in on the mpc.
make sure you didnt accidentally use the THRU port on the motif or something.

also make sure your midi transmit channel on the motif is set to 1. with the midi out of the motif going to the midi in 1a of the mpc, and then track 1 on the mpc is set midi to 1a obviously.
for now I would also only try to use voice mode, since performance will try to send multitimbral data.. lets get to that later..

ok..... you said the problem is you can play the motif and hear the sound from it, but its just that the mpc doesnt record the midi data right? and you also said you have local control set to OFF. I find it strange that with local set to off that you can hear the motif, but that the mpc wont record it at all. (yes I know I just reiterated your problem so dont say duh, im just thinking out loud on screen, trying to help you, lol)
if local is off on the motif and you can hear the motif that your are transmitting midi both ways.. hey, when you turn local on does the sound become flanged, as in doubled? if so that confirms further more that you are transmitting midi both ways.
ummm..call me crazy but on the mpc track 01 did you change Type: from Drum to MIDI????

when u have plug midi cables and select pattern mode in motif xs,u must settings in mpc,in sync put slave and midi clock on after select the same midi track in mpc and motif!

hit up a guy by the name of northern elite. He has the MPC 5000 tho.. but should be able to help you since both machines are simliar...

I have the exact same setup... and record that way as well. It sounds like you don't have the mpc set up right in the Midi/sync mode+pad9. Go there and set the active track to recieve channel to all and soft thru to "as track" and you should be set.

that was the problem, i didnt have it set to all.i figured it out almost by accident...thanks a lot anyway.
