Assignable Outs???

I have an old Fostex DMT 8 with 8 ins/outs it also has a digital out 1/4'. Do you think I could use this instead and get similar results? How much is cubase? Or where can i download it for free? i am not sure about the price of that interface... i just picked a picture of an interface that clearly shows the 8 inputs so you get what i was talking about. they are probably like 5 or 6 hundred bucks.

if you have an 8 input interface then it should work. I dont see why not.


cubase, well it costs quite a bit in the stores... sometimes when you buy an interface it might come with a version of cubase. maybe only the LE version, but it is still good.

downloading cubase, while we all know that is very possible... i cant tell you that one because we dont openly condone piracy here on mpc-forums. it hurts the feelings of people who payed full price for the product.

thanks for the comment about the song, most of my music is compiled of audio clips that i personally recorded in abandoned buildings and tunnels... and random urban areas like that.

But this still limits how many INDIVIDUAL sounds I can keep isolated at one time. Same issue.

Not saying it isn't great. Perfect for some. Just not me...

Why not? If you have 16 sounds, do 8 on one pass, the other 8 on the second. If you are doing a whole song, say 4 min long, you track out for 8 min total. If you use stereo, you can do two tracks if they are panned L/R, that will take you 32 min. If you track out using the stereo outs and only do one sound, that will take you 1 hour and 4 min. I prefer 8 minutes personally. Plus, if you take into account the fact you probably won't just sit there the whole time, you have to reassign the mutes way more often, etc, the time difference grows. Even with 9 sounds, you go from 8 min to 20 mins, assuming everything is mono.



That is the big reason for 8 outs, it is a huge time saver. You can also get creative in routing too. You may want to run a sound directly into your computer but mic another off an amp, at the same time. Or double a track and low pass one for a bassline. Run some sounds through a compressor but keep others clean.

Really, for most, again, it's just a time saver.
