Yup Yup good post.

Exactly why I grabbed the 5-hunny versus the others... portability.

The thing is freakin invaluable. How many of you only get ideas while in your studio? Not many I'd imagine. 80% of my ideas come random, the other 20% is from messing with the 500 on the ideas I already have.

If I'm at work and something hits me, I whip it out immediately or when I have a free moment. No more having to wait all day til I get home to throw down, trying to remember WTF I thought of 8 hours ago.

it's only as portable as your record collection or your microkorg etc.

i get if you've been working on a track and you got the guts there, but what do you guys have for porta-creatability.

i mean your in the woods/park/stalking you neighbor and that creativity hits you, it's not like you can sample something, you must have some preloaded synths or samples or something.. otherwise i don't get it, got me?

while i'm here, the reason i'm crippled from getting one is coz i use jj-os1 on 2.5k, how is the 500 at loading those projects, or do you ppls just make different shit on the nugget. i've read that it loads up the additional tracks from 12 to the next bank, but do they just not register after 48... i don't mean to jack but does the nugget have direct record/audio tracks?

i am in the market for portability so sell me if you can plz!

continue.... mpc500 is freedom?

what i do is i chop my samples using recycle, Ive got so much stuff chopped and saved that I havent even used, I mean some times i sit chopping stuff i sampled off vinyl for weeks, so you can only imagine how huge my "chops" folder is... also I carry cables around in my backpack with me, so say im at a friends house and we are watching a movie and there is some sh*t i hear and want to sample from the movie, well i just hook my mpc up and sample it, same can be done at the record store at the listening station, though I wouldnt advise it.............

Another trick you can do is make sampled versions of your favorite synths. Use those to record ideas anywhere without cables, then when you get home change the track from DRUM to MIDI and tweak the patch to get the sound you want.

Also, get the smallest microphone you can, like one that has no cable and plugs direct into the input. That opens up countless possibilities. Everything from beatbox and vocal instrumentation, to quick and dirty sampling of environment.

The 500 limitations can be worked around, you just have to be creative.

MuhFckrs don't know about the 500.

Did you checked out Supreme Being's video on his myspace? He took a record, chopped it up, layed the drums and made a song real quick. Though it was edited but I thought it was pretty dope.
