They recently released the Community feature on their website. To purchase the Beat Thang hardware or software you must register. If you register, you are automatically publicly listed on their Community page.

Right now, there are 115 members, including the employees. We can safely assume not all of those bought something, only registered. Out of those who bought something, the vast majority would be for the software.

Looking at it optimistically, a rough guess is 90 sales, 30 hardwares, 60 softwares. (30*$1,000)+(60*$150)=$39,000. Not bad considering people are paying to beta test software, and no hardware has been shipped.

But it'll be a while yet before they recover their millions spent on development.

Damn good catch. Wonder if they'll change their community registration to better mask their numbers. I'd put it at 90 software, 30 hardware...still not covering the bills though...

Still- those numbers look small, and purely speculation but to suppose that 30 people have bought hardware that we're not even sure exists yet is astounding.

90/30 was one of my thoughts too, but that'd be 120. When I looked at the total members when the Community first went live there were only around 90 members. There was less reason to register before, mainly just to order. But now there is more reason just to join the community. That makes the actual optimistic total closer to 90, but some of those members are Kangz and employees, so really it's even closer to 80.

Another fact is that on August 6th when I ordered, it said "Order - 20". That could mean something else, but it might be a counter and I was the 20th sale. If that were the case, one would expect some test orders to make sure it worked, so we can guess it was actually less than 20 orders a month ago. If it went to 90 orders in a month, that's like 3 a day. But those were optimistic numbers, it could be there's less.

Considering that you can't download a trial of the software, and the hardware design isn't even finalized yet, we can see the power of hype and viral marketing. Once they have their "army" built using the reseller program, the web spam will increase, and sales will probably multiply. Watch for people leaving replies in threads to their beatkangz.com/spamID links, along with more fake accounts posting fake positive reviews.

What would be the point in making customers register and make an account in their community before making a purchase?

That won't last- once (if) they get merchandise into stores like GC and Sam Ash, people won't have to do it...I guess I don't get it.

im sure if ensoniq or roland came out with a machine of this spec without the eccentric marketing and without the name and the visual stylying most peeps would love it.

the only error i can see is labelling it the mpc killer cos the machine does not fill the role of a midi centre piece for a studio, however for those that want to work quick and use the internal sounds along with samples there is no need for that midi integration.

as long as it links with a computer so u can bang out a basic loop hook it up to the pc then sequence it, then disconnect and have the song full seq up thats dope.

plus the colour screen will be easier on the eye on for arranging should u wanna do that on the unit itself.

just cos a unit does not fit ur long drawn out way of working that dont make it shit, just means it aint for u, the 4000 is overkill unless ur working in high end studios.

how many of u use 64 tracks in a hip hop beat?, the thang has the features required to get the job done quickly and easily so u can focus on creativity rather the tech aspects of production.

Oh, I have no doubt...but that just proves how bad an image/marketing plan/skewed demographic can hurt a company, big or small.

I do know that if ensoniq or roland came out with a machine like this, they would have let the machine do the talking and not come in with bad attitudes and cocky posturing.

That's one HUGE reason why people don't want to give them a dime.

you confirmed my point ur dislike is based upon image so u are guilty of the same superficial approach to music that u mock all the potential purchasers as being.

as an argument has been that the machine is gimmicky and appeals to those who wanna just make tracks without putting in the work

or the my 1st beat beat machine types who this machine will attract but that holier then thou attitude is misfounded cos u were a beginner once also.

plus u aint done no big numbers in the game to have such an elitist mindset, even big names like premo, just blaze and them r humble enough to recognize new technology so why do u think this machine is so beneath u?

plus if this is such a wack product why r peeps already talking about getting a hacked version of the virtual?

Not really sure why, but you're putting every generalized comment that had been stuttered about the beat thang and putting those words in my mouth.

First, about the superficial bit- If there's a new car company in town that makes a car that has nice features but has looks I do not like, what makes me an elitist if I don't buy one? On top of that, when I find out the owners of the car company are morons, I'm still expected to give them my hard earned money or risk being called "holier than thou"? Get real. Maybe you feel they deserve your money, but they've done nothing to get mine.

What does numbers have ANYTHING to do with what I like and don't like? No wonder you love the Kangz...you sound just like them.
You hear an opposing opinion and say something like "u ain't done no big numbers"

(straight quote)

again, say it with me people:

"u ain't done no big numbers"

just like they say "lemme hear your beats" when someone says something bad- It's absurd. As if anyone without a plaque or two on the wall can't like something. :?

This part:

made sense-

When did I say the specs were lame? Go back and re-read my last post- I said their bad attitude and cocky posturing is a HUGE reason people do not want to give them a dime. To me, everything else is just icing on the cake I don't want a slice of.

lets stick to the issue car analogy is fine but lets stick with the topic lest it becomes some abstract posturing.

but u r correct some of issues i bought up were not things that you personally said but you view point seemed to be concert with those who made comments about the gimmic nature of the machine.

im saying those who feel this machine is not worth of them are fooling themselves and caught in ego and not focusing on the spec of the machine and its strenghts.

the only weekness i see is the part about it being a midi control center for the entire studio but aside from that it add so many other benfits that peeps is overlooking cos they dont like the guys that designed it.

like i might not like the guy who designed the mobile phone but i have a sue for it so i **** with it.

many peeps might think bill gates is stiff boring croney but they cant still use the apps and o/s.

so these dude aint kissing every idiot on-lines ass but u can please everyone but wishing failure on an upcoming company cos u dont like the product like pound-whatever.

thats dread. by all means make suggestions and point out ur dislikes but these guys have shown they have a willingness to listen to potential users that should be commended.

You just a fanboy

It aint about kissing ass..these dudes talk BEYOND wreckless like they brought something so innovative to the table that WE should feel honored to be talking to them  ...I personally give 2 sh*ts...see just because of the way they act THAT alone makes me not want to give them my money. Its not ego..its common sense..they dont deserve anyones hard earned money...

No your right...a company that comes out the gate with BS, and slams customers...even going as far to attempt to put together diss tracks because people dont like their "product" is real deserving of anyones money...

GTFO... as long as these Burger King topics exist I will be here with my opinion so get used to it....The product (that doesnt exist yet) is NOT revolutionary and the cats that defend it so dearly either wasted money on it and are desperately trying to justify throwing away money...OR they actually signed up to try to peddle the Burger Kang products in hope of being a rich Kang
