Sample issue - flanging/cancelling itself out?

so i just made a beat. it actually turned out reallllllly awesome. my funkiest yet, literally. ANYWAY when playing the beat one of my samples flanges (sp?) or sounds like i hit the pad twice. it happens sporadically though. sometimes in bar 1, sometimes bar 8 and next rep it wont happen, etc.... im pretty sure the overlap on the pad is on MONO. i recorded it a couple times and this problem still comes up. does this sound like a pad defect? record it with the pad on NOTE OFF? has anyone experienced this problem and know any way around it? thnx!

Any chance you layered that sample with a low-pass filtered version of itself?

no im positive i didnt layer it with anything.

Are you sure it's on mono? That sounds like the sample's being triggered twice in quick succession, probably the pad double-triggering (which happens a lot on the 2k I have, and is apparently pretty common, but you get a feel for how to hit the pad to avoid it). The two hits are timed so close together that you get phasing/flanging rather than an echo. I'd go in to step edit with quantize off, find a spot where you're hearing flanging, and see if the sample's triggered again a few ticks later. And check one more time that the pad's set to mono.

i just checked and the pad is on mono. now its happening with another sample...it think its my pads because when i hit the pad to trigger the sample is one is sometimes flanges and sometimes doesnt. well, ill still try to find a way around this....

or if you've done it without quantize on,
hold shift, and press left or right to find all notes played on a track

I really can't think of anything else that would cause this other than the sample triggering twice.

im positive that i didn't play it twice over itself (why would do that unless i want that sound?) and both of the main samples are on MONO. im somewhat used to it now and to be honest its cool. its give the beat some depth i guess and just sounds like im throwing in effects without really doing anything. when i recorded it in Logic the flanging must have happened about 15 times throughout the song (3 min). i went to play it back and it didnt pick it up at all. so, basically to get the flange experience it has to come straight from the source. i just find that crazy that it doesn't pick up in my DAW... kinda flabbergasted to be honest. overall thanks for all the input and tips!

The 2kxl (not sure about 2k classic, and not sure if all of them do this or only some of them) has a habit of double-triggering notes if you hit the pad off-center or just in certain ways. I thought mine was broken when I first got it, but it's actually a design flaw and I learned to work around it. there are a few threads on here about it. For me, letting my finger tap and bounce back, rather than pressing the pads, and making sure to hit dead center, made it happen a lot less.

That could be what happened to you. Maybe not, I just can't think of any other explanation.

make sure your not creating a feedback loop when sampling. Think about your signal flow.
