Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

I just bought a MPC500 and here is a list of questions for things I cant seem to find out on my own...

When I record a sample from an outside source, how do I chop it up to flow across all 12 pads?

Can I load more than one drumset? Example: I load HipHopKit-1 and it fills all of pad bank A, B C and D are still empty... Can I load HipHopKit-2 say on bank B C or D?

Can I make the sequence counter longer? More than 2.4?

Mode Trim for chopping, select start/end points, extract the sound, repeat.

No you can't load programs to banks. Just make a new track, assign the other drumkit program in the track params.

Hit sequence, then param button, adjust sequence length and loop settings there.

thanks for the reply....

Is there a book out there other than the manual that goes more in depth so I can learn this thing some more? Something other than an "ebook". I looked on amazon, and ebay, but no luck....

OK so now I have ran into another speed bump...

I bought some cheap samples from eBay, downloaded them, saved them to my CF card... and when I go to load them on my MPC, they never play... it shows on the screen them loading, but I never get any sound..

I checked a bunch of them and they all appear to be 16-bit, 44.1... so I am not sure what the problem is...

Any help out there?

Make sure the file names are no longer than 10 characters.

they all appear to be 8-10 characters long...

I forgot to mention they are all .wav files... could this be the issue? All others I have used before were .snd files...

After playing around and some quick researching I came across an AWESOME program for my mac called MPCpgmMaker.

You can assign whatever file of sample you have to whatever pad you want. Fill up all or just one pad banks A-D, and it converts everything over while making the PGM file. Puts it in a folder you label yourself, and all you need to do is drag the folder over to you CF card and load it up...

If no one has used this program on here, I highly recommend it. Especially if your a new cat like myself... :D
