is not gritty, its not super clean. what goes in is what comes out. you put schit in, schit gets put out. put gloss in, gloss comes out. simple.

I take it you are replying to this

You took the words right out of my mouth - dont buy an MPC2000/xl for their 'sound' because they dont have one - what goes in, pretty much comes out. If you want to grime up sounds as you sample, get an MPC60 or an S950, or process your sample later.

thank you....what goes in "pretty" much comes out....i was seeing it how technics can make a tape deck which tapes in dolby b/c/s and then sony has a tape deck that tapes in dolby b/c/s i don't think they will be exactly the same....just how the sample quality between a asr-10 and a mpc is different even though they both are 16 bit

I'm seriously thinking of setting up a double blind test, to see if people can

a) tell the difference between sounds sampled on various 16 bit machines

b) spot this mystical 'groove' that is apparently built in to the ciruitry of the MPC60 and MPC3000.

maybe you won't be able to tell the diff...i guess my theory is wrong......

A blind test would be interesting. I can't really hear a difference between some 16-bit samplers either. But there must be some other factors that make a sampler sound 'typical'.
I compared the sp12 , s950, and Yamaha TX16w , it was pretty easy to pick out the Akai using your ears.

About mpc60 legend, i do agree about the sound, i own a s950 and it's very different from that transparent sound of the mpc2000. BUT
I really don't undersand what is this "groove" people talk about... Has it something to do with quantize? Is it just about swing, 8th, 16th, and 32nd notes ? ? So why should one thing (mpc60) groove BETTER than one other (mpc 2000) ? ? And why couldn't we make the 2000 groove like the 60, if the 60 has a so called special groove?

Blind test is a good idea....

I'd probably prove myself wrong and not be able to differentiate. lol.....

Plus, you have to take into consideration the actual sample source, mastered or not, etc etc...

Like i said before, the only "sound" i was referring to as far as being different was between a 16bit analog sample and something faster, and digital..........

F**k a monday.

All MPC's are DIGITAL Samplers!! Just cuz you use the analog inputs does not make the sample analog. The samples are all recorded and stored digitally. So knock it off with the "16 bit analog sample" BS

the mpc60,s950,and sp1200 give u slammin drums but the mpc2000xl is hot to. get the 2000xl and a s950 to go wit it and u got pure heat

No, what gives you "Slammin" drums is the kit you load in. You load weak kits you get weak kicks and snares thats what you get. How many times do you actually listen to a primo or rza beat thats not been mixed. You think their drums sound like that comming right from the machine? That shits been professionally mastered and eq'd to perfection.

ONE hundred percent correct. Some nice drums I have actually came from the sound exchange. They came from someone who labeled them all with "N O". Nice, crisp, but fFFAATT, SOUNDING drum sounds. Too bad there was only a few.

i dont know the 12 bit drum sound has a certain smack to it. only the pure hip hop headz like u and me can recognize it but the mpc2000xl can give you that and crisp strings and everything. if u listen to old school pete rock or diamond d there snares have a smack u can tell it was an sp1200. and old school premo was smashing. i will be on there level very soon

This is a silly statement. "Crisp Strings" what?
