I dont mind thread jacks as long as there's no gay ass arguing and personal attacks like in the off topic section.
LivePsy wrote:Triple-X: sorry you had a bad experience with the MPC2500. Mine was rock solid out of the box and nothing sounds like it. Maybe other MPC's do, but no other current gear has that compressed lo-fi hot-level sound. I seem to remember the EPS-16 amd ASR's did though. I've recently tried taking the samples from a favourite MPC kit over to PC and its all weak, thin and ****. But if you send the PC out to the MPC in, it gets that sound. Something about the MPC outs colors it
It really is probably time that the 2500 was discontinued. For all the complaints about it a few years back comparing it to the 2000 and 60, the MPC2500 really is/was the best mix of solid drum machine with modern storage options. Because there isn't a successor with the guts of an MPC, the 2500 will just go up in value. There will be 2500's in 20 years time still bangin'
I didn't get the 2500 because it was the leading edge of technology, that's the point. Its good technology, not just the latest. Its your instrument.

And Livepsy I agree with you about the sound. I love it. I will say that the low end falls short a little bit, but with the addition of my Aphex 104 Aural Exciter I get it ALL back and then some. Plus I use my DBX 266xl to compress before and after sampling when needed.
but anyway...
for me the 2500 fits into a niche. one would think that the 5000 would be the bad ass be all end all of mpcs especially if that someone was a person that knew little about the product line, but as we know this is not the case.
When JJ decides to make an OS for the 5k then and only THEN would I ever consider it.
Even still look at when the 5000 came out and how much it is now. 2500 bucks a year ago this time.
Same thing happen with the 4000. came out, dropped in price quickly and didnt stay long.
THE PART ABOUT ALL THIS THAT GETS ME SCRATCHING MY HEAD THO...
how can they not see the writing on the wall??
They know that they have been cutting corners on cheap parts to save money/increase profit margins right?
Okay so in turn they release products, (namely the 4000, 2500 and 5000 for example) at a high price, and then shortly after release (6-18 months) the prices drop fairly dramatically followed by the devices being discontinued.
Having tried this method and seeing its results, why continue it?
Why not spend what needs to be spent to design and build devices that are bug free and build with quality components, sell them for a bit more to offset production costs, and exercise some god damn staying power, with professional devices that are built to work and last, as well as through GOOD product support(if and when needed).
Why is that SO Fukin difficult to accomplish for a company of this size with the longevity it has had thus far?
Rather than get wiped off the map completely by marketing mainly garbage made Midi controllers and putting themselves in a position where they actually have competition now? I mean there are SEVERAL companies making midi controllers, let alone those similar to the MPK line, but aside from the Roland MV who competes with the mpc in today's market? Beat thang??

.. Ninja please.
Here is a good example for ya. and only one of many im sure..
anyway.. my friend and I went on a venture to build a professional grade in-home recording facility after he graduated from Full Sail in 1999. So we are talking TEN years ago here. We dealt with a professional Pro Audio dealer In atl called Magic Audio (now called Atlanta Pro Audio). Its the type of place where they have to buzz you in before you can enter and you call and make an appointment for a consultation to by gear. Anyway, getting to the point..
We knew alot about gear and what we wanted, but got a recommendation from the Manager on a Tube Mic Preamp.
He asked if we had ever heard of AVALON, to which we replied.. no..
He told us they were a new company offering very high quality Tube Dynamic gear, so On his word alone we purchased an Avalon 737-SP. it cost us 1899 then. Fast forward Ten years.. that piece of gear is a studio standard now and costs 400-500 MORE than it did when it came out. It APPRECIATED in value! and they are STILL MAKING THEM!
My friend still has it too and uses it almost every day. It still works perfectly, has NEVER had ANY problems and STILL has the original tubes that came in it going strong! Now while im sure there are other examples that are EVEN BETTER than this one.. it gets my point across.
WHAT THE FUK IS AKAI SMOKING????
