Another victim of lifted/broken MPK49 key

wow, I never did like the look of the MPK. Looked a little too Mattel for me. But that sucks, aint the new MPK 61 and MPK 88 supposed to have weighted keys?

My C key is slightly lifted (new out the box) had it for a year

Works perfectly though thank god

Is it that bad? I assumed most plastic keys are easy to break. Are you guys trying to break it? I have an ol' 25-Key M-Audio Oxygen v2 controller. One of the keys sticks out a little - very little. The quality of it (my keyboard) doesn't surprise me though, since it was very cheap.

Yeah it's bad! haha One of my deciding points was when I went into GC and purposely picked up an MPK then went to an Axiom and picked it up and thought the MPK had to be better based on weight. You know how cats talk about the weight of the SL1200 vs other turns and how that indicates better quality? I have 12's and well that theory doesn't apply to keyboards apparently.

Matter of fact, looking at the MPK there's a 1 inch "lever" gap in front of the keys so say you're carrying it and it slips and you somehow get caught catching it by this gap in the keys...well you've probably managed to compromise the integrity of the plastic "hooks" I mentioned. I think the problem could have easily been avoided if they made those "hooks" out of metal.

Hey, at least your Oxygen keys haven't popped all the way up so it's still playable. Maybe it's not a better design but it's WAY better than having keys lifted 2 inches above every other key.

Yes, sadly it is that bad. I've worked in a store with synths, keyboards, and controllers everyday for over 3 years. I can honestly say that I've never seen so many returned broken keys as the MPK49. You expect broken keys from say a cheap M-Audio controller after a few years. But these were coming back like 1-4 months after purchase. Same problem, same look to the key...everytime. I have a Korg Triton LE that has been hammered on for the past 4 years or so, and every key works.
For something in this price range it is REALLY shabbily built. Go for a Novation if you want a solid key action.

yea the new novation remote sl generation 2 will be using fatar keybeds so they will last even longer

Wow. I think the Novation SL MkII is identically priced to the MPK's. If Novation has better keys and Automap...

I guess the mpk really sucks

my all I can say is, I'd rather have an mpk with one broken key than a m-audio axiom

I hate the axiom, it sucks in every way, completely unrealistic with every instrument

no one every buy one again, in fact, boycott m-audio, actually boycott avid tech, they are making too much money with all the retards buying axioms and pro tools.

I hate all who say anything good about the axiom, you either don't know what you are talking about or too stupid to know what is better.

especially the ones who say the keys feel good, all you who said that tricked me into getting one. the keys feel like nothing, no weighted, no resistance at all. I hate m-audio, damn you!!!

Really? I love how soft and responsive the axiom pads were. I wanna rip em out and put em on my MPC.

61 = semi weighted
88 = weighted

The pads on the MPK sucks big time...
I felt the MPD32 was not built for bashing like the 2500...I think its the weight of the machine or just used to the 2500
I would like to play around with the MPD32 more but I think the MPD18 would be great...basic is nice
I have not had a problem, thus far with the MPK and I prefer the keys over the axiom...I broke an axiom key within a few weeks and the akai's seem to feel nicer (personally).
Would like to look at the new axiom controller though
Knobs and sliders are ok
The buttons are meh...

I had an Axiom 61 and loved it, the pads were awesome to use. Best pads I've used on any machine and that includes an MV 8000, MPC 2500, 1000, 2000XL, XR-20, MC 808 & 909.

You're hating on Avid getting money, just get yourself Pro Tools and an Axiom and go to work.

Don't forget to get you a Projectmix I/O
