Is it possible to assign sequences to Pads?

I have a MPC1000 running the JJOS XL 1.16 and would like to find out if it is possible to assign an entire sequence to a pad -- if so, how?

Also, is this at all possible on the MPC500 as well? I have one on order - don't have it yet, but figured I'd ask here!

I think i know what you're saying but the closest thing I know it to use the next seqeunce button first then hit the pad

He may mean something different, and it is a question that I have as well. On youtube videos you see people playing songs that they created on the mpc1000 by playing each track (or sequence) assigned to its own pad. This is also a technique that I have noticed in baile funk performances (and other genres, for that matter). Any ideas on how this is done?

That's exactly what I mean- like on YouTube it looks like people are triggering entire sequences and patterns by hitting pads. Does anyone know how to do this? Is it possible? If not, what are these youtubers doing?

I've been playing with gear for well over 20 years, I know a lot about it already. Yes I could go deeper into the mpc, but that can be said about a lot of things - like my job, my relationships, family, friends, and the tons of other gear. Figured I would save time by joining a forum and asking - that's working smarter, no? That's being more efficient, no?

And yes I will ask the youtubers - but I figured this is an mpc forum and some people on here should be experts, right?

On the MPC500, when sequence #1 is playing, and you're in Sequence mode, you can hold the "NUMERIC" button and type out the next sequence number using the pads, then release the button. It will show "01>03" indicating that it will switch to sequence #3 when #1 reaches the end. If you don't want to wait, you can hit ">" and it'll jump to sequence #3 immediately. To go to sequence #13 next you'd hold "NUMERIC", and press pad 1, then pad 3, and release. "03>13", etc.

It's possible to do with 1 hand, but easier with 2.

you should read the section about trackmute in the manual. if you have all the parts of an sequence on one track you can switch between sequences by muting and unmuting. that's one way i've seen people "launching" whole sequences from pads.

I'd always assumed they were using track mutes in the few vids i've seen...

In one of the eirlier JJ versions there was an option called Pad Mode. It basically allowed you to assign most functions to a specific pad. I'm almost positive that you could assign sequences to a pad with this mode. It was dropped due to the amount of space it took in the code, but all of the older jj versions are on here somewhere. You may lose some of the features that you need. Let us know if you end up using it...

Dayum i'd love to have the in 2xl, that would be the shit for live performance . JJ, take out the arp and chord and put that back in. Thanks!

what version is it

no there is no RPS feature like on the rolands, you're only option is resampling the sequences you want to play and assigning them to pads so that you can trigger them, this is what lampdog was telling you.

as far as what you see on videos what you see is people muting and unmuting tracks that are playing, it's the mute mode feature all mpcs have it.


don't know about the pad feature of earlier jj os but i wish it was still in there it sounds very useful
