Vestax PMC-06 Pro...?

For a starting DJ and to sample with?


Good? Bad? Tell me what you think of it?

For DJing absolutely recommendable, for sampling also okay, although the Vestax are a bit noisy.

For the price?

I rocked a pmc 06 for ten years, runned it into my mpc 2k xl.
I think it did its job well... never experienced any high noise levels. pretty basic EQ thou, just High and low bands. But since its rugged like a tank, and its fader are really long-lived its a well worth scratch mixer.
Don't wurry of the the noise or hiss level, its a cool piece of unit
The noise is probably more in the turntable/cartidge path of the signal, the pmc mixers just amplifies the turntable signal. thou the noise is more or less allways present in a analog device

great x-fader for a scratch mixer, certainly adequate for sampling vinyl through. the vertical faders get a little crackly after a while though--sucks when it comes to scratch routines, but not an issue where sampling is concerned. The Stanton SK series are very comparable, and probably a little cheaper.

I have one. It's a great battler mixer for everybody (beginner or Pro). Buy one and later when you have more skillz buy an innofader or pro x fader...

They WERE tanks, yes.
I had one for about 8 years and loved it. I ended up switching because after touring for a while I was sick of having to fix the RCA outputs. They busted all the time. But this didn't happen until after about 5 years of heavy use.
Keep in mind that myself and anyone else who has had one for over 5 years, the mixers were still made in Japan at that point. These mixers are now made in China and there is a LARGE difference in the durability and quality of the internal parts. This is also why they are half the price that they once were.
Still, with all this in mind it is still worth getting given the price. Just make sure that you take good care of it. They're just not the tanks that they once were when they were made in Japan. But, they are much better than a Stanton SK series...

I copped mine in 97 (it's a japan-built model) and it's still going strong. Replaceable and adjustable faders, clean layout, small footprint - the only thing I find it could use is a master output monitor for the headphones (the crossfade thing is okay, but if I'm making a mix late at night I wanna monitor the levels through the headphones too)..

Anyways, I say cop it...

Yeah, wasn't the SK series a copy of the pmc-05 and 06?
Its kind of odd that they downgraded the 06 product to a lower quality one made in china.

It would be intressting to compare the pmc 06 pro to a pmc 06proA side by side a really see
what they did in that unit after changing the manufacturing to china...

I work in a music store and have tried the Chinese model. It feels lighter and the faders don't feel as strong. The knobs are rubbery and have a better (but looser) feel. Overall feels more toy like than the Japanese version.
Pretty much all Vestax stuff went to China. It was a way for them to make it cheaper for the consumer and maximize their profits. It's a tough market for mixers right now. People don't wanna invest in a mixer like they used to. Still a good mixer though. Especially given the price.
Even the PDX turntables switched to China for the PDX2000mkII, and the casing went from metal to plastic.

my original pdx2000's have a case made of plastic or some kind of pvs.
or did you mean the "pre- pdx2000" turntable series? like the PDX-a1S, PDX-a2S, PDX-d3S etc ?

I still like vestax , just wish they made more turntablist related equipment..

I never realized they changed production on those, although I saw they changed design one or two times. Guess I also have the old japanese model then, with the champagne faceplate? In that case I would recommend looking for one of those...

The 'Pro' models were made in Japan and the 'Pro a' models are made in China. The faceplates have a slightly different colour/texture but apart from that there's very few physical differences. The Japanese models feel a bit more 'solid' though. From memory the Chinese one came out around 99/2000.
I bought a Japanese 06 when they first released in 97 and sold it about four years later for next to nothing. Wish I'd kept it now....
