Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

'nuva question for the forum, ???

Is it possible to assign 2 sounds to one pad on the 2kxl?

If not, whats the quickest way around this?
I want to try having two verions of my kick, 1 normal and one lopassed with resonance.
I don't use quantize and i'm still fresh to this, it would be diffficult for me to play the together perfectly if they're on 2 pads. The only other way i can think is is nudging one tracks notes in place in the sequencer.

Is there a quicker way? If i can put 2 sounds on one pad, how do i do that?

STEP EDIT
In main screen press F1. Jump to the first sound you recorded using the GOTO and < > Event buttons then press the other sound you want sequenced at the same time. If you own an MPC an don't know how to use step edit you're majorly missing out. It's easy to use/learn so RTFM about it.

I'd use Simultaneous feature in Program.
hit SHIFT+PROGRAM, hit the pad you want to layer. go down to where it says i think ASSIGN or NORMAL. its right on top of where it says Drum1, Params, etc... highlight that and scroll to the right until it says SIMLT.
to the right it will show where you can put two more more pads on top on the pad you're on. so basically you can play two or three sounds at once. you'll have to scroll and find the pad your other sound is on though.

if that doesnt work id say do what fung said and use step edit. goodluck

Both answers are correct. but acheive different results.
I'l explain as best I can here.
For simplicity, lets take this scenario: You have recorded a 16 bar sequence and realized that you want a Clap layered on top of the snare everytime the snare hits

If this is similar to your case, you would use Mumkai's method. First you will need to figure out the Note # on the Clap. To do this, go SHIFT>PROGRAM>(choose drum track)> hit the Clap Pad. You will see (for example) something that looks like this:
NOTE:48=Snd:Clap
You now know it is note 48.
NEXT - (without exiting any screens)
Hit the pad of your Snare. Go down to MODE, and change it from Normal to Simult. When you change it to Simult. there will be options on your right to choose other notes. just go scroll on one of those and set it to Note 48.

No need to save. Just Press "Main screen" to exit out. Hit your snare, the clap will be playing along with it.

Using Fung45's method, you can simply go add a clap over each instance of the snare individually. So if you didnt want the clap on the snare EVERYTIME, you can scroll through and individually add them. I dont use this method for layering unless I only want to add one sound over one instance. But typically I would just play it by ear.

Make sense?
